Two years ago today was Mother’s Day. It was your last good day. Eddie was in town visiting you. We had a great lunch with the family. You gave me a stuffed skunk because Satori kept getting sprayed by a skunk. I miss your laugh, smile and humor- love Renee

Today is your Birthday. I miss sharing a Birthday with you. When we were growing up we would always celebrate our birthday together since they are only 10 days apart. I would complain when I was little, I didn’t like you having the spotlight. Now I would give anything to be able to celebrate another birthday with you. Happy Birthday sister, I love you forever ❤️

On August 21, 2021 a tree was planted in Denise’s honor using her ashes at the base. It was planted on our grandparent’s property on the Mescalero Apache Reservation. Denise was born here and spent many happy years here. We planted a Yoshino Cherry tree. This was one of her favorite trees.

What I know of Denise is mainly through her sister Renee, but the one time I met her she treated me as though we had been friends for years. Such a warm sweet soul, I know she is greatly missed. I am sorry for her passing, but I know her faith was strong and she has her perfect, pain free body. Heaven has most definitely gained an Angel. <3

Denise had a way of making everyone she met feel important and special. She had incredible energy, a beautiful smile, and a twinkle in her eye. She always had creative ideas and knew how to reach people through those ideas; it's no wonder she was my son's favorite teacher! She has been there with me through some of my harder moments in life, often even making me laugh through those moments! I have no doubt she will continue to be with me, and with each of those she loved.

Never underestimate the significance you have on others. My life was not only touched but shaped by knowing you all. You made me feel like part of your family. Denise is part of that. My love for you is great. My heart and prayers are with you at this time. I am grateful that God made you part of my journey.

Denise was the cornerstone of our family. She set the example for forgiveness and compassion. She was my sister and best friend. She had a smile that would light up a room. She fought cancer with strength, grace and beauty.

Her Life

Growing up

August 26, 2021
Denise grew up in a large family. We first lived on a rural Indian Reservation in Mescalero New Mexico. She loved picking apples from the orchard, running and playing with her brothers and sisters.
Denise was born August 20, 1963 on the Mescalero Apache Reservation. Our best memories are spending time with extended family, especially our Grandma and Grandpa Little. We would listen to records on their record player in the den of their home. We would dance to music of The Jackson Five, Three Dog Night and the Tijuana Brass Band

Yoshino Cherry Tree

August 26, 2021
On Saturday August 21, 2021 we planted a Yoshino Cherry tree with Denise’s ashes at the base. This was her wish to be taken to her birth place on the Mescalero Apache Reservation and have a tree planted. Denise had many wonderful memories here. We had a traditional Apache blessing. It was beautiful and wonderful to see family participation.
The Yoshino  Cherry tree is part of the Japanese Cherry Blossoms. It only blooms 2 weeks out of the year. It represents how beautiful life can be, but how it can also be tragically short, just like Denise’s life.
