STANTON — Dennis Leigh Krueger, 73, of Stanton died Thursday, March 25, 2014, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stanton with the Rev. Tyler Peil officiating. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Shultz-Vogel-Johnson Mortuary in Stanton. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point with military rites by VFW Post 3602 and American Legion Post 88 of Stanton.

He was born June 30, 1940, at West Point, the son of Johann “John” and Ellen (Rinderhagen) Krueger. He graduated from West Point High School in 1959. He joined the United States Army, serving from May 17, 1961, until May 9, 1963. Dennis served in Germany with the rank of Army specialist 4th class with the 320th Engineer Company.

Dennis married Dianne Wulf on April 16, 1966, at First Congregational Church in Arlington. The couple lived in West Point, and Dennis worked for Sands & Hucka Maytag as a service technician. In 1969 he became manager of Diers Supply Farm Store in West Point, working there for over 20 years. Dennis worked for Smeal Manufacturing at Snyder for 10 years until he retired.

He married Gloria Wantoch on Feb. 23, 2002, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stanton. The couple resided in Stanton, and Dennis worked for several years for the Stanton County Weed Board.

His memberships included St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stanton, past active member at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in West Point until he moved to Stanton, past president of the West Point Chamber of Commerce in 1976 during West Point’s centennial year celebration, VFW Post 3602 of Stanton, VFW Post 70 of West Point and Nebraskaland Spinning Spokes Horse and Buggy Club.

Dennis’ hobbies include his horses, antiques, playing Santa Claus for many years for children in Cuming and surrounding counties and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Gloria Krueger of Stanton; three children, Ricky and Nancy Krueger of Fremont, Mark Krueger of Omaha, Kari Nickolite of Fremont; six grandchildren; three stepchildren, Susan and Brian Bollich of Omaha, Sheryl Edens of Omaha and Michael Wantoch of Omaha; seven stepgrandchildren; and one brother, LaDon and Carol Krueger of St. James, Minn.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Venice Krueger; and one brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Janice Krueger.

Pallbearers will be Amber Lenz, Art Stieren, Kenny Hansen, Chris Matthies, Michael Wantoch, Gabriel Krueger, Mason Krueger and Kevin Krueger.
