Dear Family & Friends,

This memorial site invites you to tell the stories, share photographs and videos, as well as Dennis' favorite music. Together, we honor and remember the life of my son. This memorial will be here for you to add to it at any time.

Denny, as he was known to friends and family, is preceded in death by his grandparents: Earl Slape and Zela Morse. He is survived by his wife Mickee Slape, sister Michelle Jansson, as well as his two step-sisters: Bridget Willard and Heather McCann. He also leaves behind his parents: Father, Dennis Earl Slape, mother Linda Buchanan, and Maria Slape his step-mother. Denny has a large extended family of cousins, aunts, and uncles as well as friends who will miss him dearly.

Born in Santa Clara, California, Denny lived in Sacramento, Dunsmuir, Mendocino, Mountain View, and near Mt. Shasta. He also enjoyed living in Hawaii, Lacey, WA, and Anchorage, AK.

Our special thoughts and prayers go out to John and his father Jim. We thank all of our friends and family who have called, sent cards, or stopped by. It means more to us than we can convey. Also, special thanks to Bridget for her help with edits and support in building this memorial.

Denny's life had its good times and bad times -- like most of our own lives -- but he could not overcome his struggle with alcoholism. Let us all reach out to seek help and counseling when we need it.

In hopes to save a Life, We kindly requests that donations be made to Support the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

Sharing our memories with Dennis on this site is our opportunity to heal. And we respectfully ask for discretion and privacy.
Thank you.
Dennis & Maria Slape

My name is John Merideth I haven't ben able to speak about my best friend Dennis aka Walk Tasha, we were huge Waylon Jennings Fans !!! Anyways earlier that night before he took his life, he made me listen to 'Choices' by Gorge Jones twice ! And Sammy Kershaw 'the Route that I took Twice' as well ! Listen deep and it will make sense in a way that I didn't realize until now ! I miss Dennis Dearly. Every time I throw a leg over my dirt bike or lock the hubs in a 4 wheele drive, I think about him big time! We loved off roading together. NO FEAR ever !!! He was one Hell of a pilot on a CR 500 dirt bike ! There wasn't a knarly hill he couldn't clean ! His grin I will never forget as he grabbed a handful of throttle ! I can hear your laugh and see you smile clear as day. There's a lot of love for you in this world. Out of all the adventures and stories we have had together, the day we reunited and sat in the boat talking about the old days will always be one of my favorites. So many laughs that day, thank you brother.

I came to lite a candle there is always one lit for you Denny. The passing of time is a human thing we mortals keep track of everything. But to you in Heaven no need to. And you know your thought of many times a day. Your Dad is always as you know with you.

Spring forever appears
the soothing music part
of lyrics unspoken.
It thaws the frozen fears,
mends the wounded heart
that Winter has broken.

I have always referred to Denny as "Little Dennis" :) I had the privilege of meeting Denny, for the first time, 2 years ago when he came to Grants Pass for his dad's 75th birthday. Maria had a birthday party for Dennis and had the family over, it was a special time. Dennis is my 1st cousin, I believe that makes Denny my 2nd cousin.  What a wonderful, friendly, handsome young man he was! I knew about him through my brother Rex. I had heard lots of stories and have seen pictures of Denny throughout the years that Rex had taken.  He looked so much like his dad! I really enjoyed Denny the short time I knew him, it felt so comfortable, like I had been a part of his life for years.  I'm so sorry about his loss, he will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him, if even for a short time.  This memorial site is a beautiful tribute to him, he would be so pleased. I pray for God's healing and comfort at this time. I love you all, Sue

The last visit we had with Denny was 2 years ago, He drove from WA to OR he came for Dad's 75 birthday party, I remember his happy face when we greeted him at the door. He enjoyed the party meeting friends from the neighborhood and seeing family members. Denny and his Dad spent a few days together driving around the area, stopping for a meal, or to take in a view. Many miles they drove as Dad loves to drive around. This time together is very valued to Dennis now with his birthday in a couple days.

I am Denny’s father’s cousin. Denny would be my children’s 2nd cousin. I first met Denny when he was a baby. About a year old or so. I was living with his grandma, my Aunt Zee, at the time. He was a very active child and I would see him when his dad Dennis would come to visit. The next time I saw Denny was at his grandmother’s funeral in 1988. He was a very handsome young man. His dad n I have remained close throughout the years with occasional visits. So sorry Denny has left us. May hearts heal as we hold memories close. Beautiful memorial site. Prayers for the family!

His Life

Young years

December 8, 2021
When Denny lived with his Grandma Zee in the Mount Shasta area, he became a Cub Scout. He went to Mountain Camp and acquired a certificate in archery. There, he played Little League Baseball and then football on the Dunsmuir Junior Varsity Team. He wore the #65. Next, he found his love of snow skiing. He had a yearly pass to ski at Mount Shasta and, over the years, he became an excellent skier.

When he was old enough to ride a motorbike, a new love developed. Dirt Bikes! We will hear from friends here who were with him as they packed up their bikes in the pickup truck and headed to parts unknown to ride. He participated in dirt bike racing events and friends say that he was known to be a Rock Star of this much-loved sport.

"Time to get a job Son"

December 9, 2021
One of the first jobs Denny had was working in silk screening. There was a job in a bicycle shop fixing bicycles that he enjoyed. Later, Dennis worked in construction, then became a residential and commercial painter; he was very good at this trade and knew how to do the job the right way. He once walked all around our house saying: "This needs caulking and painting." The house was new -- so he was saying it wasn't done right in the first place. One time he and Mickee visited us to paint our patio pergola which we all did together. It looks great to this day.

One of his heart's desires was to become a heavy equipment operator -- Tonka Toys, you know. Excavator, bulldozer, backhoes, and the like.

You will be forever missed my love

March 1, 2022
I remember just like it was yesterday, down by the water when I heard his voice. What a nice introduction he had presented. "Hi my name is Dennis (as he shook my hand)" he said to me with sunglass on and a smile of kindness washing over his face. Him and my husband had hung out before and wanted to meet the rest of the family. Dennis also invited us to supper that night(not knowing that this would lead to many of them) What a fest! We all shared wonderful food, drinks and music. The one thing we shared with each other was being able to experience the love we were all creating for each other in that one particular moment in time. It's as if time were to slow down when we all were together. I know I can speak for my entire family when I say "Dennis, my brother we will always love you, cherish every second spent with one another. One day my brother we shall meet again, all of us.

We went to Hawaii together

December 13, 2021
Hi, I am Matt McFadden. A friend of Dennis during the late teen years. Dennis and I went to Hawaii together. We jumped off water falls together and drove his uncles car through the sweet smelling sugar cane roads of Hawaii. Had some good times hanging out in the hot tub at his apartment. Dennis was a great friend. I will always remember the times we had together.
