A few of my cherished memories of Pablo.

November 26, 2013

Pablo was my cousin, he was my father's sister son.Pablo was a very kind and concerned person. He was family oriented and cared deeply about others. He always tried his best to fulfill promises he made to others, and little things meant a lot to him. Whenever he was going to Trinidad, he would ask me if I had anything to send home and he will take it for me. Pablo often asked about others ,my brothers and sisters.  Pablo always return my phone calls. Even when I am in Trinidad he calls to find out how thing were going. He used to enjoy telling me about the latest news in Trinidad. When he looks at the "Weekend Round Up " Trinidad half hour news on Sunday mornings in New York he would make sure to call and talk about the highlights. The last time I spoke to him, I called him to tell him some Trinidad news  that Conrad, my brother, told me about . I grew concerned when I called  him a couple of times some days later and he did not return the calls. When I discovered him after he "passed", I was truly shocked. I was hoping that nothing was wrong with him.  Pablo, thank you for  being there for me, love you, I will miss you.May you rest in peace.

Dennis Courtney Gittens was born on September 24, 1945 to Mr and Mrs Errol Gittens, Sr., in the country of Trinidad and Tobago.  Dennis, throughout his life was an individual of exceptional intelligence and perception.  There was nothing in worldwide politics that Dennis wasn't capable of conversing in, especially the politics of his beloved country Trinidad and Tobago.  Because of his knowledge of current and past events, he was able to keep us folks updated with day to day happenings.  I have always found him to be a man with tremendous insight.  Dennis always seemed to know what was happening around the town, sometimes reporting news to his colleagues long before it even hit the newspaper.  He was well liked by his many peers and will surely be remembered for his participation in the local steel bands both in NY and Trinidad.  His love for local culture was genuine and deeply felt as he had a heart for children and music (especially calypso).  Surely, everyone will remember him with the bottle and spoon at Christmas time clanging to calypsoi and paprang music.  Regardless of where he was in a "lime", one could guarantee that once there was music playing, Dennis would find a bottle and spoon.  He loved people and life and he surely lived it to the fullest doing the things that he enjoyed most.  A unique person of great character and strength, Dennis will always be remembered by those who knew him best. Rest in peace brother.
