His Life

A native of Columbus, Derek was the son of the late Leon Sr. and Mary L. Daniel David. He was a 1987 graduate of Carver High School and received his degree from the University of Phoenix. Residing in Savannah since 1997, he was employed as a OBT Operator for Georgia Power Company. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Temple of Glory in Savannah. He was also a Prince Hall Mason. A devout Christian, Derek was an amazing, kind hearted and loving man. Very influential to kids, he served as a mentor at Fort Valley State University. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leon A. David, Jr.


Surviving are a loving wife, Natasha Smith David; four children, Jacorius M. David, Diante T. David, Kelsey A. Smith and Deondre J. David; two siblings, Rev. Michael T. David Sr. (Theda) and Dawna David; his father and mother-in-law, James Smith and Mae B. Smith; his brother and sisters-in-law, Thackery Smith, Angela Washington and Tiffany Smith; special niece and nephews Kelli David-Swinson, Michael T. David, Jr. and Leon A. David III; god-children, Ladaisha N. and Jakera Rumph and Arielle M. Bivins; and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
