His Life
August 6, 2015

Mr. Smith was born on December 14, 1954, the son of Edna Willene Moore Smith Layman and the late John Robert Smith. He served his country honorably in the United States Army where he achieved the rank of Spc4. For his gallantry he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He had a tremendous work ethic, and even after the onset of his ill health he continued to pursue work in his chosen field as a crane operator. He felt that it was an honor to work and provide for one’s self, and took great pride in doing so. One of the wonderful qualities he inherited from his mother was his talent for cooking. Dishing up his delightful creations for his family was a great joy to him! He loved sports, especially football and baseball, and enjoyed watching games on television. One of the great highlights of his life was watching his son, Casey’s high school football team win two state championships! He was loved by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his mother, Edna Layman of Franklin, GA.; two sons, Casey Smith (Whitney) of Carrollton, GA., and Patrick Smith of Zweibrucken, Germany; one daughter, Cheyenne Smith also of Zweibrucken, Germany; two sisters, Linda Foster of Franklin, GA., and Deloris Bearden (David) of Five Points, AL; one brother, John Robert Smith, Jr. of CA.; and one granddaughter, Joleen Smith of Zweibrucken,Germany.
