We are very touched to see these pictures and tributes to Derrick. We only met him once so didn’t know the kind of person he was. We can see from this how strong and loving he was and understand how much his family has lost. Yet Lesley is always smiling and kind despite her loss.Thinking of you today Lesley with warmest wishes for you and the whole family

DP, there are so many wonderful memories that I have of you. I could write a book about the years you lived with us in Jamaica. I smile when I remember you in platform shoes and bell bottom pants, ready to go to the disco. You were a great story teller and I sometimes wondered if you were merely entertaining me or telling me what really happened. You have been greatly missed but we know that you had to go and that your suffering would be over. Keep dancing and smiling that devilish smile. Rest in the arms of our loving God. With much love.

What a beautiful celebration of Dereks life ! Very touching especially with the selected songs . I only met Derek few years ago, sadly the final years of his decline in health, even though I have known Lesley for perhaps 37 years. You had such beautiful memories together my dear sister. And Thank You dearly for sharing them with us all since we could not meet for an in person gathering. Dereks at peace, resting and not suffering anymore. We await that wonderful scriptural hope of a resurrection to new world with no more pain or death or suffering ,Revelation 21:3,4. He will be back fresh and young and vital again !

Dearest D

You Always had a smile for everyone and of course a new thing on the market to promote. Best thing ever !! You introduced me to noni and I still take it. So wish it could have cured you .

I am so happy you are no longer in pain and no longer suffering. The pain you were enduring was hard to watch for your family and friends. I’m so happy you are now pain free and asleep waiting on Jehovah to call your name.

D you will be missed by all those who knew and loved you and you will forever be in our hearts. ❤️

My brothers and I first met Derrick as children when he lived behind us in Jamaica. He became a family friend and at different points throughout the years we would connect in Jamaica and Miami. Derrick was always the same wonderful person throughout the years and well loved by family and those who were privileged to get to know him. May the warm thoughts of others and God's word continue to bring comfort to the family always (Job 14:15, 16). Much love from the Morris (Collings) family.

Derrick was a wonderful person. He was always a person seeking a better way to live for himself and family. On many of our business adventures he was always honest and sincere and people could see and believe he was a person of great integrity. It’s a trait that is rare in today’s business world. In some cases he has blessed the lives of many people around the world through his sharing of opportunities. I am grateful to know him and will miss him dearly both as a business partner and a friend.

I will always love you Dad and I am forever grateful for the man you have taught me to be. You always taught me to put Jehovah first and to be giving and grateful for the things we had growing up. It's crazy how each day that passes by I realize how much of you I see in me. I know the past few years before you passing you were suffering and i'm just glad i was able to be by your side to help take care of you and spend time with you before you passed. I will always love you dad and theres not a day that goes by that you don't cross my mind. Rest Easy Dad

His Life
February 28, 2021
Derrick Adlaberto Portuondo was a son, brother, uncle, husband, father, friend, and most importantly a man of faith. He was born on February 3, 1955 to Agatha Chong and Palmenio Portuondo. His 65 years on earth was filled with countless moments. Moments of happiness, sadness, laughter, tears, pleasure, pain and most importantly love.

Derrick expressed his love through giving. He did his best to provide for his family by ensuring that they had beyond the basic necessities to live a happy life. Not only did he give to his family, but also always made an effort to give to those less fortunate. Whether giving money to a stranger on the side of the road or sending money to a charity through the mail, he gave from a place of love.

Derrick or “Pepito” as he is affectionately called by his friends, was known to be very charming and charismatic. He was well liked and loved by those who considered him a friend. He loved to dance and always had moves to showcase on the dance floor. Even during his illness, when he danced, he came alive, and one could not tell he was sick at all.

Derrick was known to be a car enthusiast. He had a passionate interest in cars. He took pride in every car he owned and admired many others, particular exotic sports cars.

Anyone who knew Derrick, knew he loved to travel. He traveled frequently for work and for pleasure. One could say that he was happiest traveling and exploring the world. His travels took him to North and South America, Europe, Asia, and of course the Caribbean, where it all started in his native country, Jamaica.

Though he is at rest, Derrick will continue to live on through his wife Lesley, his son Jon-Derek, his daughter Danielle, and in the memories of all who loved him dearly. May he rest in peace.
