His Life
February 28, 2021
Derrick Adlaberto Portuondo was a son, brother, uncle, husband, father, friend, and most importantly a man of faith. He was born on February 3, 1955 to Agatha Chong and Palmenio Portuondo. His 65 years on earth was filled with countless moments. Moments of happiness, sadness, laughter, tears, pleasure, pain and most importantly love.

Derrick expressed his love through giving. He did his best to provide for his family by ensuring that they had beyond the basic necessities to live a happy life. Not only did he give to his family, but also always made an effort to give to those less fortunate. Whether giving money to a stranger on the side of the road or sending money to a charity through the mail, he gave from a place of love.

Derrick or “Pepito” as he is affectionately called by his friends, was known to be very charming and charismatic. He was well liked and loved by those who considered him a friend. He loved to dance and always had moves to showcase on the dance floor. Even during his illness, when he danced, he came alive, and one could not tell he was sick at all.

Derrick was known to be a car enthusiast. He had a passionate interest in cars. He took pride in every car he owned and admired many others, particular exotic sports cars.

Anyone who knew Derrick, knew he loved to travel. He traveled frequently for work and for pleasure. One could say that he was happiest traveling and exploring the world. His travels took him to North and South America, Europe, Asia, and of course the Caribbean, where it all started in his native country, Jamaica.

Though he is at rest, Derrick will continue to live on through his wife Lesley, his son Jon-Derek, his daughter Danielle, and in the memories of all who loved him dearly. May he rest in peace.
