I first got the chance to meet Derrik when he started hosting the nintendo club every other Wednesday at the library. Thats the only time we ever really hung out, but I will never forget how cool and laid back he was. He brought joy to everyone there, and you could talk to him about anything that was on your mind. I was going through a tough time back then, but Derrik never failed to cheer me up, and he always had some helpful advice to offer. Attending the nintendo club was a really major part of my life, and I dont think it would have been as important to me if I didnt get to hang out with Derrik every other week. I miss you bud ❤

Derrik was one of those people you could depend on for anything, especially a smile. He was legitimately the only guy my mom would allow to come to my house and hang out. When he got his first car, he came and picked me up. When he got his lip ring done, he came immediately to my house. I remember showing him how to straighten his hair when he went through that phase. Calling him Derice and looking for red high heels pumps because Steve said he looked feminine with his hair straight. I remember hanging out at the mall for hours on end. I remember breaking up with a girl for him because he wanted to date someone else but didn’t want to be mean to the girl. Driving down to the fish hatchery and talking under the stars and trips up the mountain. The hour and and hours of talking about life, deep things and other things with no depth at all. Most of all I remember an extremely accepting loving friend who was the 1st to jump up and defend someone he loved. Someone who I will dearly miss forever!
