Her Life
September 16, 2014

Diane Cook was the daughter of the late Nat and Mary Davidson of West Point, Georgia. Diane lived an exciting and fulfilling life in West Point, surrounded by a husband who loved her dearly, Fred Cook, close family members, and many friends. She was an active member of both the West Point Presbyterian Church and the Beulah Methodist Church. Diane loved gardening and looked forward to picking out the new flowers she would plant each spring. She would often use flowers from her garden in the Sunday arrangements at the Beulah United Methodist Church. Diane relished the opportunity to play card games, and was particularly skilled at bridge. Diane and Fred often hosted bridge games at their home. Diane loved animals and was instrumental in the start-up of the Chattahoochee Valley Humane Society many years ago. She continued to support it and its worthy cause throughout her life. Diane and Fred went on many adventurous travels together; whether on safari in Africa or on a paddleboat on the Mississippi, they always returned with great stories – Diane was a gifted raconteur – then they would start planning their next adventure together. Diane enjoyed show tunes and Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals. On most nights at home, she would sing their favorite tunes while Fred expertly played the piano. They definitely loved life and each other. Above all else, there was no other place Diane ever wanted to be than here in the Valley with Fred, her family and her friends.

Diane Cook is survived by her daughter, Becky Aul of Lanett, Alabama, daughter Cathy Gowdy and son-in-law Michael Gowdy, of Anniston, Alabama, her sister, Julie McCaffrey and brother-in-law Glenn McCaffrey of Greenwood, SC, three grandchildren, Clinton Aul, Katherine Aul, and Annie Aul, her sister-in-law, Margaret Muller, several nieces and nephews and her devoted friends and caregivers, Louise Summers, Tammy Pagan and Stephanie Blackwell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Cook and her son-in-law, Barton Aul.
