Diane Elizabeth Hoyt Jordan, 82, passed away at her home early on the morning of June 18th with her husband Joseph by her side…just the way she wanted. Diane was born September 7, 1938, the daughter of Allen Philip and Shirley Barbara Hoyt in Dorchester, MA. She spent the younger years of her life in Abington, MA, graduating from Abington High School in 1956. In 1960 she graduated with a degree in biology from Eastern Baptist College in St. Davids, PA with a degree in Biology. There she met, fell in love with, and married Joseph (her “Joe”) Jordan.
For nearly 62 years they lived their lives in active pursuit of what they were lead in faith to do. They were blessed with two sons, Frederick and John, and foster daughter Deborah, who came to live with them while they were serving as house parents in the Presbyterian Children’s Village in Rosemont, PA.
Diane’s professional life was spent “in the health care of others”. The majority of her career was spent at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Possessing a brilliant mind, she often “out diagnosed” the doctors with whom she worked with. An expert level Scrabble player and puzzle master, she took her greatest pleasure from the fresh blueberry pies which she baked from the berries harvested from her summer home in Franklin, ME.
Diane was always in the service of others and many people she met along her life's journey became deeply connected through her love and guidance. With an incredible wit, she often made her caregivers claim her as their favorite patient.
As noted above, while married for nearly 62 years with Joe, the love of her life, she created a life full of love and opportunity. Diane is survived by husband Joe, son John and his wife Michelle, daughter Deborah and her husband Joe Casey, sisters Phyllis Henrikson, Jean Carey, and Roberta Brown, seven grand children and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed terribly by them and her many friends, all of whose lives are so much better for having known her.
