Dick taught me that I can paint like an impressionist, I am forever grateful.
Richard "Dick" Louis Ferrer, 68, of Nashville, passed away, March 7, 2016.
Born November, 7, 1947 in Indianapolis IN, He was a 1966 graduate of Southport High School and a 1984 graduate of Indiana University majoring in political science and anthropology.
Dick was in the Air Force from 1967-71 He was an E4 Sargent, surgery technician stationed at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines during the Viet Nam War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Ralph Ferrer and Helen (Longrich) Ferrer and his son Michael Sean Ferrer.
Survived by:
Wife: Dixie (Frazier/Aull) Ferrer
Brothers: Edward (Dusty) Ferrer, Anthony Ferrer, Joseph Ferrer
Children: Amanda (Clay) Chaney and Geoffrey Ferrer; step children: Joseph (Krisin) Aull, Delise (Kurt) Webber, Randall (Carrie) Aull
Grandchildren: Brittany (Ryan) Evans, Jay Chaney (Amber Clyburn), Danielle (Corey) Ferling, Ethan Ferrer, Isaac A. Chaney, Haley Aull, Jay Aull, Mena Webber, Henry Webber, Alex Aull, Westley Aull and Charles Aull
Great-grandchildren: Serenity Chaney, Clayton Chaney, Isaac L. Chaney, Aiden Ferling and Christopher Ferling.
He and Dixie have happily lived in Brown County for 17 years.
He was a fine art painter, illustrator, art teacher and co-owner with his wife, Dixie, of Ferrer Gallery in downtown Nashville and Ferrer Studio II in Brown County He was a well-known figure in the local art community and was active in the following organizations:
-Art Alliance Brown County
-BC Backroads Studio Tour
-Indiana Heritage Arts (board member for 6 years)
-Artist Member at the Brown County Art Gallery
-TC Steele Memorial
-Indiana Plein Air Painters
-Indiana Artist Club
-Patron of the BC Art Guild
-Hoosier Salon
Dick participated in Lakota Indian ceremonies in Indiana and South Dakota. He also facilitated Indian religious ceremonies throughout the Indiana Correctional System for many years
Dick was an avid tennis player, enjoyed painting with fellow artists and being with his family. He had a love for seeking knowledge through books, nature and music, especially Nirvana and Neil Young. He was a devoted Oakland Raiders and Chicago Blackhawks fanatic.
There is no funeral or memorial service scheduled at this time but A Life Celebration will be held at a later date.

Daredevil

Some of my most cherished memories of dad were all the times he took time to go to comic book conventions with me. Dad was always a fan of Daredevil and I remember more than one piece of Comic book art he did for me as presents. I was watching the Netflix Daredevil series and found myself wondering how much dad would have liked the treatment they gave the character. I think he would have liked it.
I know at that point he didn't have much money, but he always found enough to make sure I never left a comic convention empty-handed. Those reflections of generosity mean a lot more when you grow up and realize how hard your parents worked for every dollar they gave you. I never asked and will probably never know some of the small sacrifices he probably made to ensure I always had something to read on those weekends.
These days I appreciate those Saturdays and Sundays more than I ever thought I could.
