Dingneng Wang August 16, 1963 – September 25, 2020
Dingneng Wang was born on August 16, 1963 in Taixing, Jiangsu Province, China. He is the third child of four brothers in his family. He passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2020 with the love of his family. He’s survived by his wife Xiaobing Xiong, his son Jesse Wang and his daughter Monica Wang. Dingneng was diagnosed with gastric cancer in December last year. He has been actively treated since then. During the whole treatment process, Dingneng has shown tremendous courage and effort to fight this disease. He actively sought effective treatment methods, wrote treatment diaries and engaged with his doctors and his close friends. He is a real warrior in many ways. Although his battle has come to an end, his spirit will last forever and will be an inspiration to all others.
Dingneng was a gifted and diligent boy in his childhood. His curiosity and desire to always seek the truth behind things made him so successful in his studies and throughout his career. He graduated from the Chemistry Department of Nanjing Institute of Technology with high honor in 1983. Due to his outstanding performance, he was admitted to Jilin University to study as a graduate student and was recommended to take the CGP exam for public study abroad. After admission, he spent 1 year to study English in Guangzhou and went directly to Purdue University in Indiana to pursue his Ph.D study in the field of physical organic chemistry in 1984. He got his Ph.D degree in chemistry from Purdue university in 1989. After receiving his PhD, he moved to Denver, Colorado and was employed by the National Institute of Renewable Energy to conduct research on renewable energy. While in Denver, he also received his Master’s degree of computer science from the University of Colorado, Denver in 1998. At the beginning of 1998, he moved to San Diego and decided to change his career to work in the software industry. He has successfully worked in multiple companies in his career. The last company he worked with is Intuit, a reputable financial software company in the United States.
Dingneng held a very successful career. He has impressed many of his colleagues for his excellent workmanship and expertise. Here are some comments quoted by his former colleagues:

Dingneng was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Whether it was family, friends or strangers he would always help with a ready smile. He put family and friends above everything else.
Outside of his busy professional work, Dr. Wang Dingneng volunteered to serve the San Diego Hua Xia Chinese School and devoted tremendous efforts and countless hours to this course. He served as the chairman of the school parent association in the early years of the school. He was a multi-term school board member and the head of the school council. For many years, he was in charge of school public affairs, website development, online registration, and even server hosting. For over two decades, he played pivotal roles and devoted himself to the development and growth of the school. His selfless dedication benefited the entire Chinese community in San Diego and reached out as far as Riverside County. Dr. Wang Dingneng has made an indelible contribution to the Chinese youth in their Chinese language learning and exposure to Chinese heritage, and the promotion and dissemination of Chinese culture to other ethnic communities!
Dingneng demonstrated his passion, dedication, and endurance in sports too. He was an avid volleyball player, cyclist, and ultramarathoner. His “certainly-can-do” attitude and athletic prowess enabled him to complete numerous sport events and activities including international ultramarathon races, 100KM rides, the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim trail running, and the most arduous Cactus to Clouds to Cactus day hike. He also liked to play bridge and won a top award of bridge match. He had so much energy and never knew what fatigue was. He had a nickname of Superman from his close friends.
Dingneng will be loved and missed by so many people.

定能是一位多项体育运动超级爱好者。他是球艺高超的排球队员，自行车爱好者和越野超马选手。积极不怕困难的态度和永不言弃的个性让他完成过多次国际超马越野比赛，百公里的骑行，著名北美大峡谷穿越和北美单日最虐的步道“仙人掌到云端”的往返。他还喜欢打桥牌，并曾获得了华人桥牌赛的最高奖项。他精力充沛，从不知道pi'jua。他的朋友都称赞他是超人。
定能将会永远活在我们心中。
定能，一路走好，愿在天堂的你能够安息。

Dingneng - you moved to my organization at Intuit recently as of last June. I have had only one virtual meeting with you .. yet you made such a deep impression on me in that meeting .. the positive way you appreciated the team and the manager and the courage you displayed when you shared your situation and cheer you showed when sharing your July 4th test results.. I regret not having known you more. You will be missed.

Dingneng and I had very similar life experiences and backgrounds. We both were born and grew up in countryside of Jiangsu province. Our home towns are so close - just across the Yangtze river. Dingneng and I went to the same college in Nanjing just one year apart. We both left China right after our graduations. Sadly, we didn’t know each other while we were in Nanjing. In 2009, we met at ICW Group in San Diego and worked in the same group. Due to the similar background, I felt I found the best friend and have a new brother. I was amazed by Dingneng’s high energy, work ethic, passion, positive attitude, braveness, simplicity, easygoing, and kindness.
Dingneng, you left us so suddenly and we cannot accept the reality. On 9/19 , you sent me all you contact info in case WeChat cannot be used in the future. My heart is bleeding after I heard the news about you a few days later. Your leaving is a big loss to me. You will be forever missed and remembered by our whole family. Rest in peace!

想你时你在天边，想你时你在眼前。定能大哥忽然离世，到今天已经十三天，然音容宛在笑貌犹新。湾区几个好友明晚将一起夜登使命峰，共同追忆我们心中的定能大哥。我会给你背上一瓶好酒上山
三年前程阳说介绍我认识一个普渡大学校友，神人，骑车爬山跑步越野打牌打球样样精通，也是黑哥的老朋友。网上一连线，就很喜欢他开朗乐观性格。之后在当年的元旦夜前夕，我们一起参加了黑哥组织南加州backbone步道116公里穿越。当时虽是第一次见面，却俨然已象老朋友一样的熟悉了。他内敛而灿烂的笑容，风趣幽默的话语，无所不知的脑袋瓜子和细致周到的照顾让那次徒步很欢乐。在backbone步道上我们走了二十三小时，从一个黎明走到另一个黎明。驴友跑友都知道，只要一起共过长长的夜路，今后就不仅仅是朋友了，是哥们姐们了，是在你生命中闪着亮光照亮过你的萤火虫。那次徒步他陪着Larry大哥过了大半程之后先撤回旅馆了，但是我念了他们一路直到天亮，因为我盼望他们能开车到前面哪个叉路口把我也接去酒店，我也累了，也想学Larry偷懒。所以他们也算是在我脑子里和我一起走完全程的。
活动结束之后，他在群里如数家珍地报了他善长的拿手好菜，还大家约定好要下次饮白酒品龙虾，玩得更嗨。

之后定能大哥来到湾区出差几次，我们一起吃过一顿饭，和我的女友们一起爬过山看过日出。每次都相见甚欢。很喜欢听他聊天，天南地北，老婆孩子，佳肴美味。
去年的四月，程阳组织大峡谷R3穿越，我们又一起参加了。他约了一个朋友从加拿大过来，我也喊了女友Jennifer 一起。程阳分组时男青年归男青年，女青年归女青年。我们四个人不顾反对，坚持要呆在一组。男女搭伙，走路不累。我们怎么能放过和幽默风趣，体贴入微的定能大哥一组呢。
到了半夜三点出发时，发生了一堆特别搞笑的故事，结果定能大哥一陪四，一个董永和和我们四仙女成了一组。又是从天黑走到天黑，互相照耀的几只萤火虫，经历了无限的风光和疲乏。当时的欢乐，至今仍然回味无穷。
人生就是离弦的箭脱手的梭，许多事由不得自己。定能大哥铁一样身子骨，却没有能抗住疾病的折磨。今年四月，他微信我说与魔鬼抗争了四个月，在地狱边上走了一圈。我一面加入他的后援团，为他打气，一面也在心中坚信定能定能，就是一定能。小小病魔一定能战胜！可是天不随人愿，如惊雷一般，定能大哥这么快就离开我们了。
亲爱的的定能大哥，你把人生当着黑哥的百迈越野，二十四小时之内就完赛了。我们今生赶不上，留下同路时的寸寸回忆，永记吾心。愿你在天上继续嗨，骑车，跑步，游仙山，吃蟠桃！定能大哥，世间没有永远，你在我们心中却是永远！

定能真的走了吗？我还没有缓过气来，还没有完全相信...
和定能认识20多年的往事，历历在目：我们一块儿参加孩子的生日party ，一块儿去露营，一块儿去滑雪，一块儿打排球，一块儿在中文学校舞龙（定能做龙珠，我做龙头）庆祝中国新年...
我们两家交往甚多，因为我们的女儿同岁，我们的儿子也同岁。周末常常是大人打牌，跳舞，孩子们玩游戏，捉迷藏...
记得有一天，定能一家到我们家来吃晚饭。他说儿子Jessi中饭没好好吃，晚上一定要让他多吃一点。结果Jessi不合作，吃了一点就要去玩。定能强迫儿子坐下要喂饭，Jessi牛劲儿上来了，就是不张口。双方僵持了一会儿之后，Jesse放松了警惕，张口打了一个哈欠，定能眼疾手快一调羹饭就送进去了....现在还记得当时大家笑得肚子痛的情景...
定能聪明绝顶，教育孩子也有自己独特的方式！定能是个严格的好父亲！
记得定能在科罗拉多州住过, 有高超滑雪技术。我们两家一块儿去Big Bear滑雪的时候， 就是他带我第一次上了black diamond ，耐心的陪着我跌跌撞撞地滑下来。还记得他的鼓励 “降低重心，腿顶住鞋子，向前冲”...
定能是个热心的好朋友！

与定能相识已经有20年了，我们曾经是sorrento network的同事，当时的定能可是风华正茂，才华横溢，精力过人。而最吸引我的还是他开朗大方，助人为乐的性格。不管谁有困难及问题，他都热情相助而且总有解决方案。初到圣地亚哥，因为共同的排球爱好，让我们结缘，排球场地上留下了我们许多共同的脚印，汗水，欢声笑语及美好回忆，是定能引领我加入圣地亚哥camel valley排球队才有机会与众多志同道合的球友结缘，使我至今受益无穷。定能很长一段时间是球队的财务总监，他总是尽职尽责，为球队采购设备，督促球员交款，使球队的财务总是有结余。在排球队里，定能就是那个追求完美，眼里揉不尽一粒沙子，不知疲倦的神人。 有定能在，大家都不急着架网，原因是别人架的网定能是不会满意的，一定要推倒重来。打球时防守范围极大，经常有飞身救球的精彩动作，但偶尔也有失误的时候，比如撞在球架上，撞的鼻青脸肿的事情常有，但定能不在乎，恢复速度极快。如果有其他球员动作不规范，他总是要指出来，反复纠正，不厌其烦。因为定能的坚持，我们球场上的最后一场球经常都已经是夕阳西下，其他人也许已经精疲力竭，但定能却总是那个精力最旺盛的神人，我相信定能也许不想与我们这些凡人为伍，去追随神的足迹去了，愿已在天堂的定能一路走好，坚持你的完美！
