I have always heard that when you see a butterfly then a loved one is visiting from Heaven. I just couldn't imagine my husband as a butterfly. I said a dragonfly maybe but not butterfly. I've never seen a black dragonfly but at work now I see a black dragonfly with Gold specks in his wings and know that DJ has come to say hello.
I remember our first valentines like yesterday. You came to the house with two huge heart balloons, big stuffed teddy bear, chocolate, flowers and a card. You knew how to make my heart melt. You've always been the most loving man and could make me smile. This will be our first valentines day ever being apart and I'm missing you. I hope you know how much love and kisses I'm sending to you up in heaven. Our love lives on forever.
Talks that kept me up til school next day about random stuff & how to keep the boys as friends & which ones you hated. Also the weird dreams from all your syfi books and movies. No I will not use the bathroom on the couch bc that is not the toilet. The aliens are not going to get me if I pee in the bathroom!
I knew DJ in high school, we shared many long bus rides. DJ was a wonderful friend, the kind of guy you wouldn't want to date because you didn't want to risk losing your friend. (I know that's what took you so long to finally go out with him Tara!) I could talk to him about anything and he would actually listen and talk to me without judgement. He was kind, and good, and very much in love with his other friend-Tara. I am so glad the two of you shared your lives and made your beautiful family together. It saddens me that we didn't stay close after highschool especially now that he is gone far to soon. I feel blessed for having known him and pray for peace for your family.
On January 23, 2016 I woke up and told Steffanie that someday I wanted to get a husky puppy. I told her I wanted a husky puppy because that is the closest thing to a wolf that I'll ever be able to own. When DJ was here on earth we collected wolves and Indian things, due to his GGGgrandmother being a princess of the Cherokee nation of the wolf tribe. That night Budda came home asking if I knew anyone that wanted a husky puppy that his boss had. I looked at Steffanie and she and I both knew it was DJ. I bothered Budda all week about getting me a picture of the puppy. Thursday night he came home while I was half asleep and lay the puppy down on my chest. She and I are now inseparable. DJ still hears me and he found another way to yet make me smile. Since she is heaven sent I have named her Heaven. She will be my partner here on earth to be by my side until I'm back by DJ's. I love you DJ!!!
One of my greatest memories of you is listening to Bentley go running down the hall to the bedroom and banging on the door. "Poppie let me in." When you let him in he'd say, "Poppie cookie." You would point to your special stash of cookies and tell him, "you know where they are." He'd get his cookie and climb up on the bed with you to either watch TV or playing video games. Sometimes he fell asleep, sometimes you let him play video games too, and sometimes he'd throw stuff out the window just so you guys had to go outside to get it. Not a day went buy that Poppie wasn't spoiling his Bentley. The day you passed Bentley looked up at the sky and said, "Poppie on the moon grandma." Now he points to his chest and says,"Poppie in my heart. " Tonight we were looking at pictures of you on my phone and he said, "that Poppie right there with Bentley Michael." "I miss Poppie." As long as I live he will never forget how much his Poppie loved him!
Every time I got a new outfit, especially for homecoming or prom, he would make me try it on and give his "profession critic". "Turn, Um no, I don't like that, that looks ok. I am mr fashion thank you. Hmmm maybe. You need a bracelet. Uh no I'm not gay! I am Mr fashionishta damn it! Fabau fuck u... ok bye have fun. Love you!"
When I was in the recovery room after having a c-section, they brought in the birth certificate. DJ and I argued for a half hour, how we were going to spell Steffanie's name. I won, of course. He then called his parents to tell them she had arrived. We then found out that she was born on his older sister, Angel's birthday. It was that day he vowed to her she would always be his baby girl and protect her against everything.
When I woke up and realized I was in labor with our oldest daughter Samantha, DJ asked do you have to go right now? I said no we had time. He went next door to see his buddy, then down the road to tell my mom because we didn't have a phone. When he got back I got in the car and he decided that we needed oil. As we were in the driveway I watched my mom go by. We then stopped for gas. DJ was never in a hurry and good thing Sammy wasn't either. My mom was waiting on us at the hospital when we arrived.
