BIOGRAPHY OF DOMINIC OBUKADATA ONEYA

Brig. General Dominic Obukadata Oneya (Rtd) was born on the 26th of May, 1948 in Apapa, Lagos. He hails from Ehwerhe - Agbarho of Ugheli North LGA, Delta State.
He began his early education at Baptist Primary School, Apapa Lagos, between 1954 and 1961, and thereafter enrolled into the Baptist Academy Yaba, Lagos from 1962 - 1966.
He enlisted into the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA) for the Regular Council 6, in May 1969 and was commissioned into the Infantry Corps in September 1971.
He attended The University of Ife, Ile-Ife (Now Obafemi Awolowo University) between 1977 and 1980, where he obtained a B.Sc. Degree in Physical Education.
He attended several trainings from reputable Military Institutions in and outside Nigeria. Prominent among the courses were; the Young Officers Course Jaji, Kaduna, 1972 and the Senior Division Staff College Jaji, Kaduna from 1983-1984. He was in Ontario, Canada between 1987 and 1988 at the Canadian Land Forces Staff College.
He held several Command positions in the course of his Military Career. Among these were: Adjutant, 31st Infantry Battalion (1972); Instructor, Divisional Training School, 4 Division (1972-1973); Instructor, Nigerian Army Military Training College, Jaji (1975 -1977); Staff Officer, Grade II Army Headquarters, Lagos, as well as Staff Officer, Operations, United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) between 1980 and 1981. He also served as ADC to the late General David Ejoor.
Brig. General Oneya was also Commandant, Nigerian Army Physical Training School, Zaria, between 1985 and 1987; Directing Staff, Command and Staff College, Jaji, as well as Directing Staff, Ghana Army Force College, Teshie, Accra Ghana (1989 -1991); Commanding Officer, 82 Infantry Battalion and Commander, 3 Motorized Infantry Brigade, Kano between 1993 and 1995.
Brig. General Dominic Oneya served as Commanding Officer, 16 Battalion, Nigeria (ECOMOG) Contingent in Liberia. He returned to Nigeria and was posted to Training and Doctrine command (TRADOC) and appointed Director Administrator and Finance between 1995 and July 1996 from where he was appointed Military Administrator of Kano State by the Administration of Late Gen. Sani Abacha on August 22 1996 and he was later reassigned as the Military administrator of Benue State in July 1998 and handed over to the Civilian Administration in May, 1999.
He was appointed the Chairman of the Nigerian Football Association (NFA) from 1999 -2002, after retiring from the Service. While serving as the Chairman of the NFA, he was appointed as a member of the CAF African Nations Cup Committee from 2004 till date and a FIFA Match Commissioner, Brazil World Cup 2014, Africa Preliminaries Qualifications.
Before his death, Late Brigadier General Dominic Oneya (rtd) had since retired to his country home in Warri, Delta State where he occasionally takes to farming and also served as the Chairman of the Traditional Council of Chiefs of Agbarho Kingdom, and the President General of Agbarho (Urhobo) Improvement Union (AUIU) and was Grand Knight of the Knights of St. Mulumba.
In 2017, he was appointed Chairman Board of Directors, to the Dominic Oneya Foundation and NGO started by his children, to continue his good works of giving back to the needy and communities where he has served.
He is married to Chief (Mrs.) Patricia Edirin Oneya. He is blessed with 14 Children and 20 Grand Children.
His hobbies include; Football, Squash, and Lawn Tennis.
