The San Diego State football team held a weekly boosters luncheon. Don got down on his knees to
show a blind child the design of the rug. Don cried.
I will always remember this sign of his humanity.

My mother was a single parent who taught at San Diego State in the 1960's. My brother and I went to the
Aztec games with my mother. Don became like a father figure to my brother and me.

Like many former players have expressed, Don was our role model and set the standards for us to reach to be successful in life. He was my hero.

Away from football for years after getting out of the
serice in 1946. It all changed when I watched an
Aztec game in 1964. Been one of his fan's ever since.

The Memorial was amazing. I laughed and I cried. I would like to suggest that you make a DVD of the memorial available to purchase and then donate the proceeds to his favorite charity. I'd buy one.

RIP Coach, you brought hope to the hopeless in St. Louis. You truly changed the game, and brought it here first. It's a shame the Cardinals Front Office was so shortsighted. San Diego's gain was St. Louis' loss...
