Dearest Grandpa, I remember coming up to your house many times throughout my childhood. I remember there was always two tv’s in the living room & you’d be laying on the floor with the smaller one in front of you. I remember you keeping a huge tub of bubble gum in the hall closet for your grandchildren & telling us to grab a handful for the rides home. I remember going to the horse races with you and how I always ended up with a dixie cup full of cash, still not sure to this day if you gave me the money or if I actually won! You told me to do one thing with the money, buy some earrings! I remember playing kick ball with the family outside during the holidays in the back yard and I remember the smell of ham cooking in your home. You always wore a flannel button up shirt. I remember you giving us girls the biggest hugs & how I wish now that I hugged on a little tighter and a little longer. I was just a young teen when you passed & I wish with all my heart that I knew then what I know now. How I would have talked with you more, asked you about your life growing up, talked to you about the things that needed to be passed down, stuff that maybe others wouldn’t know because only you do. You are my history & you carried so many stories, I wish I knew then to ask you about them. I wish you got the chance to meet your great grandchildren. One of which has your Goebel Nose. I look at my nose and I am proud of it because it came from you. I take pride in being a Goebel Girl, I honor my name the best I can. I hope you look down on me & you’re proud of me. Take care of Grandma, make sure you two dance & laugh & cook some ham! I’ll see you at the races Mr.Gobe, I miss you. Love, Amanda Goebel
