This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Donald Calderwood, 87 years old, born on April 10, 1927, and passed away on July 7, 2014. We will remember him forever.
From: Gale Simon God could not have given us a better next door neighbor. Your love for your family, your generous heart, your warm smiles and greetings will always have a place in my heart. I always admired how you worked so hard to provide for your family. Even though you were busy, you would take the time to talk through the fence with me about all sorts of things; "the little girl next door", with no Dad around... was curious about. Thank you Mr. Calderwood for being such a wonderful part of my childhood. Your family, even now, I consider my own. Donny and Susie are in my heart as my own brother and sister. Mrs. Calderwood was like an angel to me. I always hoped to grow up to be as kind and sweet as she was. I will never forget her laughter either... just like a breath of fresh air! May God bless you. You will be remembered always with love and missed greatly. Gale Simon
How funny...we all remember the card games! All the adults would get loud and raucous! All the kids would either be playing or once it got late (and that did happen) laying down in front of the t.v. and sneaking in the room to get snacks that were on the card tables! Uncle Donnie was always tasked with contributing bread to the potlucks...so appropriate for him! I think we all miss those days and all the "elders" that have passed.
We Love Susan and We Loved You Too, Dad. Loved Living With You Both During These Past Few Years. You Kept Us Up At Night. We Needed To Know You Were Alright. Your Time Has Come To Move On. Enjoy Your Retirement From This Life and Enjoy It In The Very Next. Bless You Don, You've Got A Wonderful Daughter. Thanks For Sharing Her With Us.
Dad, I will always remember the long nights you spent with me going over fractions and my home work when I was young! Math was not a good subject for me but you were always there to help me. I will miss your chats about the union and politics and your passion with them. You are now with Mom and everyone else that has past. I love you and will miss you very much. You did your best and will always be proud of you. Good night dad. From your loving son Donnie.
John's stories about Uncle Don always include Aunt Hilde, and their dedication to each other. He remembers the aunts & uncles all playing cards and enjoying themselves thoroughly. What a comfort to know that Don & Hilde are free from suffering and together again!
A funny man, always with a story or a joke to tell! You made many of my mornings with your visit through my line at the grocery store. You will be truly missed by many especially your daughter Susan who did a wonderful job taking care of you up until the very end. May you now rest in paradise with your lovely wife ❤
My life was blessed by having you and your family in it. The memories are countless. May you now have the opportunity to join those that left us long ago and that your spirit can continue with them. In memory, you deserve to rest in peace.
You are missed, by your siblings Willard (Woody), George and Barbara, your children Susan and Donald. You were a great husband to your deceased wife Hilde. You will be joined by your father Willard and your mom Margaret, your sister Pat and brother Robert. You served your country in WWII and met your lovely wife. You were a wonderful father and a hard working man. I will love you always and miss you every day, in loving memory may you rest in peace!
I will forever be grateful to you for having been the most wonderful husband to my sister Hilde. You never tired in being by her side, good or bad, forever willing to push her wheelchair, rolling up her hair, lifting her in the bathtub, and still always got up early going for a hard day's work. All of Hilde's family is grateful to you forever.
Uncle Don so remember the card games with my Dad and Uncle Dick and Aunt Hilde, all the banging when you all were slapping down cards and how nice you were when I got to play and you helped me win. Now you can all continue playing in heaven together. Will miss you.
Memories of you include playing pinochle with my parents. You would push Aunt Hilde in the front door with a smile. Sassy would jump down from her lap and look around but never travel too far away. After cards, you would sit on the porch out back and talk about Union issues and smoke a cigar. (I think Uncle Bobby had the pipe and you the cigar, but I might have gotten it backwards.) You always seemed so happy and attentive to Aunt Hilde, calling her "Momma". You could tell a good joke and hold your own in an argument, which would flare up any time you and Uncle Bob got into politics. Your were always welcoming when we would come over. Thanks for everything. I'm glad you are no longer suffering.
My life will never be the same without you, I am glad I got to spend the last four years with you. So many memories of my childhood, you gave us a wonderful life filled with love. I am glad you finally get to join mom, she has been waiting for you for so long. May you walk threw the Black Forest hand in hand like you did when you fell in love. I miss you every day.
