Crawdading at the Krum Farm
I have many fond memories of Donald & his twin brother, Ronald, as young boys. We were the same age (first-cousins) and always enjoyed our family times together. We would tie a piece of fat meat to a string and sit by the old crawdad hole located in a pasture near the house. We would take our catch back to the house where Aunt Reba would prepare and cook the crawdad tails for us to eat. Donald was somewhat mischievious and once he coaxed me to urinate on the electric fence; that was a shocking experience! My sister, Jayne, and I spent one entire summer with the Chism family and started to school there in September 1946. The old rusty school bus would pick us up at the farm (when it was running); I remember that I was in the 5th grade & Jayne was in the 3rd grade. The Page family began having their annual reunions there at the Krum Community Center in 1946 and it was a special time for lots of fun and games for the many cousins in attendance. It was always celebrated on a Sunday so the Krum Church of Christ had a larger than usual attendance on that morning of the Page reunion. Donald was a good Christian man and he will be missed by many.
He was a sweet and personable man! Always had a smile and was a soft spoken man! He loved his Joanna, he was so proud and very caring for her.
One story I have about Don was from my Chronicle days with him. He came into my office for a favor, I thought it was work related, but no, he wanted to go to lunch and then take me to see this diamond ring he wanted to get Joanna, he just wanted my opinion and approval. That occasion meant a lot to me because I knew how much it meant to him and he wanted to make her smile and happy! That's the kind of guy he was, always thoughtful and kind!
He was a good Chronicle distributor and respected by all!
May you Rest In Peace, Don! Miss you!
