This memorial website was created in memory of Donn Sweet, 84, born on October 29, 1932 and passed away on July 20, 2017. Throughout his life, Donn touched so many lives -- through his church service and the bookstore he ran as part of that fellowship, through his passion for local theater, and through his family and many, many friends. He always had a smile or a joke, and displayed an incredible warmth to everyone he came in contact with.

Born with cerebral palsey, Donn was fiercely independent throughout his life and accomplished many great things. Some of the many roles he fulfilled were husband, father, grandfather, entrepeneur, counselor, patron, student, teacher, and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; by his son James and his wife Mariah, and their three children, Quinn, Griffin, and Julian; and by his daughter Dawn. Calling hours will be from 6-8pm Friday July 28 at Jarmusz Cotton Funeral Home at 26 Maple Ave, Victor, NY 14564. The service will be held 11:00am on Saturday July 29 at the LDS church at 275 Whipple Lane, Irondequoit NY 14622.

Don was one of our heroes. He made the most of life with the lot he had been given. Always smiling, never a complaint and helpful in any way he could be. We'll miss you Don. The world is a better place for having had you example for eighty four years.

I have known several great, decent and honorable men, but Donn is one of the rare few among them who were inspirational to me. In the 50 years I was acquainted with him, his faith, courage, wisdom, love and good cheer belied the physical challenges he faced every day. Even for those who only met him once, there is no forgetting his exceptional character; it simply isn't possible. We will meet again, Donn. God bless your wife and family.

Don was a vital part of my spiritual and mortal maturity. As a youth in Syracuse, in church with him every week, I was awkward and uncomfortable around his disability but I grew and matured as I learned to see and know the man and his spirit...not his disability. It/he changed me forever. Thanks, Don! You blessed my life. I heard several LDS church leaders say that people who are born with severe disabilities proved themselves to be so valiant and noble in what we Mormons call the "pre-existence" that they did not have to prove themselves more in this life because they had already earned exaltation in the highest degree of heaven. (Preexistence is a spirit life before we came into our mortal body...and one of the reasons for mortality is to prove our faith, obedience and acceptance of His atonement so we can return and dwell in His worthy presence. )....explanation only...no proselyting intended....

Once I was trying to arrange something at the top of a bulletin board in the church. I couldn't reach it and had to get a chair. I complained to Donn, who was nearby, "I'm just not tall enough for this." He laughed, gestured to his wheelchair, and said, "Neither am I." I pointed out, "Well at least you can expect to be taller in the next life!" I'm sure that Donn is standing very tall now.
