It is officially tamale season. You are missed so much for much bigger and better reasons. But believe me this is going to be a tough Thanksgiving. You always put so much love and care into keeping our more difficult family favorites alive. My Mom misses you so much.

We have been recounting some of the very funny things we still do because of Aunt Dora. Most of all we were afraid to break any of her things. As a family we are still all very careful with the things she left us. Love You so much - grief comes in waves but we can stay afloat for now.

Dora was someone I could joke with, share horror movies and learn from. She made going to work fun. Her sense of humor was contagious. She will be missed. Rest in peace Dora.

Dora can’t believe you have left us behind. You were such a sweetheart. You always had a beautiful smile. You were always so helpful and had such a great attitude you are going to be missed by so many people. Family, friends and all the people that came in contact with you! You were such a treasure!

I had the honor of meeting my sweet friend 8 years ago through work. She always treated me and my boys like family. From breakfast tacos to tamales, she always spoiled the kids and I with gifts from her heart. She could make us laugh until we cried or be a shoulder to cry on when you just needed someone to listen. I’m so lucky to have been blessed with her friendship and I will cherish those memories of her forever. Rest In Peace Ms. Dora. ❤️ We love you!

I met Dora many many years ago and as we both experienced life’s ups and downs, sorrows and happiness, her smile and laughter always shined through. She loved her family fiercely and included friends into that circle. Her tamales were to die for and the warmth she showed are memories I will cherish.

Our Aunt Dora was so special to us. She meant so much to a lot of people, and there are plenty of reasons why. When we were growing up as little kids she would entertain and spoil us. As we began loving the music she did, she would often drive us around and jam out with us. Our musical tastes were refined as she would also give us an assist when we needed CDs which may not have been age appropriate! (But we can all agree that Snoop and Dre CD was an essential when it came out, she knew it!) There were also many occasions she would let us call and get music videos we liked on "The Box". We made the mistake of doing it once without permission, never did that again :)

When we became adults her support was still there and branched out to our own children and loved ones. The one person we could count on getting our annual Tamale fix on was Aunt Dora. She opened her home up and watched us try to spread, fill and roll the right way. But those times weren't for Tamales as they were for us. The occasions were always full of laughs, catching up and stories of good times. Even though she was a private person that enjoyed her space, she broke out of it repeatedly to join family vacations and gatherings.

She meant so much to us and things won't be the same without her. We will keep her alive by talking about her and using her examples to become better people ourselves.

Buster Brown

August 25, 2021
My Aunt Dora had a beautiful black and brown pup named Buster Brown. He was huge and did a lot of chilling and inspecting. It was the first time I was around such an enormous indoor pet. Not a lot I remember about his personality but he knew that he was not the pack leader. This was around the time my Aunt Dora was at her peak! She was the cool Aunt anyways but she was so happy. I would do anything to go back and ask her more about that guy Buster. No disrespect to Pepper at all. But Buster was a special pup because he had my Aunt for a Mom. Miss you Aunt Dora.

Glad to have known you...

I met Dora at work in 2017. She was my work neighbor and welcomed me with kindness and always was so giving. Shared breakfast burritos and snacks and even gifted me a blue blanket the first Christmas that year. I miss her advice and hearing her laugh and stories of Pepper and me sneaking in some hugs to thank her.  We lost touch but life happens and I'm so sad to have learned of Dora's loss. I am glad I got to know such a beautiful soul . My condolences for your family, Dora.  May you rest in peace.

Dora and I were childhood friends I have so many stories so I can share I can be here all day telling you about us all the things we did. I will share with you the one story that I can remember it like it was just yesterday. As a kid I remember I could not wait get home from school and go to the Castro home to see Margaret and Dora to spend time with them. I remember running over their house they lived a block or two away and I would run into the back room where Dora would be sitting she would just look at me and start laughing and say where are your shoes I was always barefoot anyways, everyday we had to watch that show Welcome back Carter she was so in love with John Travolta on the show we would never miss that show she was so in love with him. Then we would go outside talk to the guys Curtis, James, Tony, Juan and Ricky. Our childhood crushes(hehe). It was just fun hanging out with Dora she made me laugh so much she was so funny. I have lots of memories with her and this one of many that I will take with me. I already miss her.
