Obituary

In as much as it has pleased Almighty God in his infinite wisdom; to call from this earth General Singer's Treasure Emeritus, St. Dorcas Stieff, we write our appreciation of her.

She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on December 23, 1923 to the late Bishop Joseph E. Morris and Grandmother Sarah, St. Lillian B. Morris.  She was the fifth of six children, John, Daniel, Ruth, Marie and David - all preceded her in death.  She attended the Pittsburgh Public School System and graduated from Schenley High in 1942.  After graduation she attended Ella Ren Beauty School and graduated top in her class as a beautician.  In later years she attended Community College of Allegheny County, where she received an associate's degree in Social Work.  She worked and retired from the Allegheny County Health Department in 1986 to take care of her elder parents.

She was blessed by the late Bishop Abel S. Dickerson and jointed the Church of God and Saints of Christ at the age of 12.   She had a love of singing.  When she joined the church choir, she was the last singer of four rows of alto singers.  She preservered and became the head alto singer locally as well as nationally.  She service the choir for some 64 years and retired in 1999.  She was a member of "The Victory Song Birds", other members were St. Ruth Thomas, St. Marie Eaves, St. Naomi Robinson and their bass singer St Erma Alford.  She was a member of the "Silver Echos".   You could always find her in her place, read to sing for God.  She was the example of "Faithfulness".  She served God and the church until the end.  She was the Mother Sarah of the Pittsburgh church and served on various committees; Pastor's Wardrobe, Ways & Means, Look-out, Widows & Orphans, Charitable Committees, a Special Daughter and Church Trustee.  She also serviced as the General Singer's Treasure of the National Singer's Choir for many years.  She received her Doctorate Degree in Biblical Studies, September 28, 2014.

She married the late Grandfather Abraham, Evg. James Stieff, Jr. on March 4, 1946 and to this union was born eight children.  She departed this life on July 18, 2015 at her home in Carnegie, PA.  She leaves to mourn her loss - eight children, James (Jimmy) Stieff (Carolyn) of Silver Springs, MD; Joseph Stieff, Sr. (Sylvia) of Verona, PA; Roy Stieff of Pittsburgh, PA; Marcia Grant of Cleveland, OH; Frederick Stieff of Akron, OH; Sandra Smith of Pittsburgh, PA; Karen Minor (Glenn) of Carnegie, PA; and Carmen Stieff of Pittsburgh, PA; 18 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren, 2 sister-in-laws, a host of relatives and friends.

Her favorite scripture - Psalms 8:9 - O Lord our Lord, how excellent, is thy name in all the earth!  

I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
