Doris C. Meyer peacefully passed on April 12th 2019 with her husband George by her side.
Doris was a loving and dedicated wife,
mother and friend. She always brought joy and laughter with her.
Always up for a talk, a joke, an adventure or lunch with the girls.
Born July 1940 in Queens NY to Camella
and Kenneth Hoffman. She moved to New Paltz as a child, graduated
from New Paltz schools and lived in Modena for the last 60 years.
An active member of her community,
Doris was the friendly-face at the Modena Post Office since 1973,
becoming Postmaster in 1984, she always knew your name and family.
She was the essence of small town; giving out lollipops and answering
every letter to Santa that arrived at her Post Office. She retired
in 2000.
Doris was a lifetime member of the
Modena Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, serving as past president
and treasurer. She was also a member of the Modena Cemetery
committee and the Lions Club.
By far, her lasting legacy is the
loving extended family which she created with her husband George.
Meeting each other 62 years ago their love affair began. Keeping
friendships as long as their marriage. George and Doris were
surrounded by many generations of love, laughter and memories in her
last days.
Doris is survived by George Meyer, her
loving and attentive partner of over 59 years. Her son Kenneth and
his wife Kimberly, Daughter Elizabeth Camille Meyer and
Granddaughters Kelsea and Kassandra Meyer. The family resides at
Heritage Trail in Modena, NY.
A gathering to pay final respects will
be held at the Modena Fire Department on Sunday April 14th between
2pm and 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to
Modena Fire Department or Ulster County Hospice.
Tributes
Leave a TributeI am so grateful in having her as a Boss as she (being a mother herself) always understood when a situation would occur with my young children that my place was with them. She would always work around my kids sport games in my work schedule and for that I am so grateful as they both turned out to be well-behaved Adults. I will never forget, and I must always credit Doris for this, when my son had his rehearsal dinner for his wedding, he said Mom, when I played all my games (baseball and football) when I looked up in the stands, you were always there. Words cannot express that moment and I have to thank Doris for that.
I can go on and on.... and to sum it up, there will be no kinda, passionate and loving person than you Doris !. You will be truly missed, but I can promise you one thing.. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN !. Love you to Heaven and back
