The Beginning
On February 28, 1925, God blessed the union of Clyde Morris
Harris & Ella V. Ward with a baby girl by the name of Juanita
Doris. Doris was reared in a Christian home on Munger Ave. in
Dallas, Texas along with her sister Jimmie Lee (Deceased). She
was baptized and became a member of The Good Street Baptist
Church (Rev. Cesar Clark) at an early age.
Doris attended B.F. Darrell Elementary and Booker T. Washington
High Schools. While at "Booker T" her teacher A.S. Jackson first
introduced her to music. "Nita" (as she was affectionately known)
graduated in 1942 and continued her education at Madam C. J.
Walkers School of Cosmetology, earning a Beautician's license.
In 1943, she married Cornelius Porter and they moved into their
dwelling at 4823 Baldwin. Three children were born from this
happy union: Raymond Earl, Samuel Maurice & Brenda Louise -
and oh don't forget their loveable dog Terri. After a few years went
by Nita and Cornelius part ways.
