Doris Lynn Brown Obituary

March 3, 2016

Doris Lynn Brown (previously known as Doris Shuman and Doris Weaver) died on February 10, 2016, in Portland, OR, after a long illness.  She was 69.  Doris is survived by her daughter, Elise Prickett, son-in-law Daniel Prickett, and granddaughter Sophie Prickett, all of Beaverton, OR; sister Margaret Morcom of Marysville, WA; brother Lanny Shuman of Seattle, WA; sister Ruth Quinnett of Oregon City, OR; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Doris was born on December 28, 1946, in Ashland, OR, to George and Marguerite Shuman. She graduated from Sunset High School in 1965, received a degree in Education from Portland Community College in 1973 and Portland State University in 1979. Doris spent time working as substitute teacher, a massage therapist, and a home caregiver.  Her daughter Elise was born in 1984, and Doris later shared the joys and responsibilities of parenting with her spouse, Arthur Roy Brown.

Doris was accomplished at badminton and clogging and she is remembered as having a green thumb. She was a generous individual who loved camping and hiking and who was passionate about nature and the outdoors. She was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church and often volunteered to feed the homeless.  Her daughter remembers her as a kind and patient mother who encouraged her to be herself.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Southminster Presbyterian Church 12250 SW Denney Rd., Beaverton, OR, with a reception to follow.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Doris' life and bring a memory to share. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Oregon Food Bank at www.oregonfoodbank.org. Condolences can be sent to Doris-Lynn-Brown@forevermissed.com. The family would like to thank the staff at Senior Care Services for their dedication and skilled care.
