Her Life

Florencio

November 7, 2013

My mom was introduced to my dad by her older brother John. He joined the Navy at 18 years old, my dad also joined the Navy at the same age, and John and my Dad became good shipmates. My Uncle John told my dad stories about his family and brothers and sisters, he never mentioned my mother to him.

One weekend on Liberty from the ship, my uncle brought my dad home to meet the family. My mother said when their eyes met it was love at first sight. My parents were married shortly thereafter.  Not long after that I was born. My dad stayed in the Navy for 20 years and my mom and I traveled with my dad to his ports of destination, whenever possible. My parents believed staying together as a family was important. Mom and I got to see many countries and we had many happy experiences, and  made a lot of wonderful friendships in our journey.

My dad stuggled with Alzheimers Disease for over 10 years and passed away in February 2010, at the age of 86. My mom had been his caretaker throughout his illness and decline. They were married for over 50 years...Amazing love story. When my dad passed my mom was devastated. She never really recovered from losing "The Love of her Life" ...One thing I know for sure they are reunited in Heaven, and the story continues...

My Mom...Dorothy Ann Serrato

November 4, 2013

Dorothy was the second child born into a family of 6 brothers and sisters. Three boys and three girls. Mom being the eldest daughter, had the huge responsibility of helping to raise her siblings. She was often called upon to cook for the family at a very young age. My grandmother was not physically well and needed the help of my mom with the resposibilities of the house. Dorothy did not have a lot of time for herself, and often was not able to go out with friends. One thing I know for sure is that my mom loved her family and would do anything for them. She dedicated a lot of herself making others happy, as a child, and through her whole life.
