A Little White Lie that Changed my Life
February 7, 2012
Some of you have heard Dottie & I tell this story and since she's not here to tell it with me, this will be the last time.
Back in the 70's, the nuclear Med tech quit @ Watts Hospital. I was the only person available that could do a little bit of nuclear medicine. I enjoyed it at first but became overwhelmed and needed an out.
Finally, Dottie came for a job interview. During the interview and department tour, Dottie was in the small, dark nuclear med procedure room. She was so excited to note a curtain on the wall. She made the comment that was so cool to have a window in this dungeon of a room and if she didn't take the job for any other reason, just having a window was worth the job. I did not say a thing but, yeah.
I will never forget her first day on the job. She moved the curtains to find nothing but a cinderblock wall. The look on her face was priceless. I quickly learned a new vocabulary from her but never the less we became friends, close co-workers & I never had to do nuclear Med procedures again.
I can only ask forgiveness for this little lie, but the great times I spent with Dottie Hughes, including both work and play are engraved in my heart forever. I will treasure them the rest of my days and am so grateful for the opportunity to have had her in my life.
