Dorothy Jane Smialkowski Bolan Lepo was born on May 13, 1934 in Newark, NJ. Dorothy died on September 30, 2021 at the age of 87. Dorothy attended St. Casimir Catholic School in Newark, NJ. She graduated from Eastside High School in 1951 and graduated from New Jersey State Teachers College at Trenton in 1955. Dorothy was passionate about teaching and instilled a love of learning in all her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was a high school business teacher for many years.
Dorothy lived in New Jersey for most of her life and some of her fondest moments with family were at the many beaches along the New Jersey coastline. Dorothy lived in Emerson, Old Bridge and Toms River in New Jersey and also lived in Salem and St. Charles, MO, Ft. Pierce, FL and Fairborn, OH.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, John Lepo, daughter Kathleen (Bolan) Hadley of Barnegat, NJ, daughter Janet (Bolan) Hoffmann of Ballwin, MO and daughter Marilyn (Bolan) Jacobsmeyer of Powell, OH. Dorothy was a loving grandmother and will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Diane (Hadley) Quinn, Christopher Hadley, Joe Burk, Harrison Jacobsmeyer, August Jacobsmeyer, Hugh Jacobsmeyer and Adalia Jacobsmeyer.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Ann Elizabeth Bolan, her parents, Stanley Smialkowski and Jane (Sadowski) Smialkowski, and her first husband, Michael Peter Bolan.
To honor Dorothy’s wonderful life, in lieu of a memorial service the family asks for Catholic masses to be said for Dorothy Lepo or for donations to be sent to Assistance Dogs International.
