On December 10, 1934, the late Early and Gennie Mae Winston gave birth to a beautiful daughter, Dorothy Louise. While growing up in Chambers County, her parents instilled morals and values, which she took with her throughout life. On Sunday, July 7, the Lord called her home.
Dorothy confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Greenwood Baptist Church, Lanett, AL. She united in holy matrimony with John W. Thompson III (Mickey) in June of 1954. Unto them six children were born. Later, she joined her husband as a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
In 1954, Dorothy graduated from Lanier High School. She was later employed by Peabody, Playtex, and West Point Pepperrell. After retiring from West Point Pepperrell, she developed an entrepreneur spirit and established a fine reputation as a flea market vendor.
Dorothy encompassed a vivacious spirit, one who never met a stranger. She was a “people person” with a very outspoken personality, full of laughter and love.
Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, John W. Thompson III (Mickey) and her daughter, Theresa D. Thompson
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her children Vanessa “Kym” (Jim) Henderson, Arlington TX; Johnny Thompson, Merrillville, IN; D. Rose (Don) Bordes , St. Louis, MO; Weslene “Tot” Thompson, LaGrange, GA, Jermaine Thompson, LaGrange, GA, and Marennis Thompson, Lanett, AL, a grandson whom she raised as her own; twelve grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Frances Boyd, Stone Mountain, GA; Arrie Truett, Cleveland, OH, Genevieve Heard, West Point, GA, Millie (J. C.) Whitlow, and Mattie Ruth (Willie) Goss both of Lanett, AL; three brothers, Lamar Winston, Montgomery, AL; Jesse (Dorothy) Winston and Earl Winston, both of Cleveland, OH; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
