Dorothy Patchett Eby passed away on Jan. 30, 2014. She was born on Sept. 14, 1921 in Walla Walla, WA and spent her youth there. After receiving her nursing degree from Loma Linda University in California, she returned to Walla Walla College where she completed her BS degree in 1945.

Dorothy married Orval Patchett, whom she met while in Loma Linda. They relocated to Pasco, WA where she helped Orval in his medical practice. In addition, she was an active mother and church member. She assisted with various school projects, club adventures, and church projects. Education was very important to her. As a result, she and Orval supported numerous students in school.

Dorothy was known as a “get it done” person. She applied this philosophy to all aspects of life, whether it was project fund raising, school board issues, musical practice, or home canning. She was the first woman to serve on the Walla Walla University board. She also contributed for over 20 years to the Loma Linda University Medical Auxiliary in various capacities. Her famous saying was, “I’ll be happy to.”

After being widowed for 18 yrs, Dorothy married Wilder Eby, a long time friend. They spent 16 years travelling, enjoying grandchildren, visiting friends, and loving life. After his passing, she continued in all these activities with her family members.

Dorothy was full of life until her sudden death. She is survived by 5 children, Clay, Noni, Tim, Dick, and Peggy; 9 grandchildren, Rik, Kelly, Kristen, Richard Christopher, Allison, Brandan, Ryan, Greg, and Noni Marie; 1 great-grandson, Colin; extended family Olga and Tom; many “adopted” children, along with a multitude of friends. She truly loved her God, her church, her family, and her friends. Her life has been a blessing and she will be missed.
