Her Life

IN LOVING MEMORY OF

May 15, 2019

Dorothy Jean Hathaway Rogers Scrimgeour was born on an Easter morning, March 23, 1926 to Georgiabelle Carson Hathaway and Donald Lewis Hathaway in Denver, Colorado. The little Hathaway family moved to Casper, Wyoming when Dorothy was just 3 years old.

Dorothy literally grew up in a radio station; as her parents hand built the very first radio station in the state of Wyoming. She took her naps in a basket behind the transmitter, she always remembered how warm it was back there! Due to the fact that Dorothy had to be very, very quiet while her parents were on air, Dorothy learned to be quite the accomplished artist.

The Hathaway family were members of the First Presbyterian Church. Dorothy attended schools in Casper, graduated from Natrona County High School in 1944 and graduated from Colorado Women’s College.

In 1946, Dorothy married WWII veteran, Daniel Charles Rogers, Jr on June 2. Together they enrolled at Iowa State University and also, began their family. After they both graduated, the little Rogers’ family moved back to Casper Wyoming, where Daniel began his law career and Dorothy was a dedicated homemaker and active church member. Dorothy still found time to continue her artwork. She created art/graphic pieces for her parents’ radio and (the new invention) television stations. Dorothy also had her own art studio in Casper. As their three children grew, Dorothy created, wrote, produced and starred in the children’s television show “Aunt Dorothy”. In 1960 the family moved to California, where Daniel was lead council for the Presbyterian Church Headquarters in San Francisco. Dan and Dorothy also were instrumental in starting St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Sonoma. California is also where their youngest child was born.

In 1984, after Dan retired from the Veterans Administration, Dan and Dorothy moved to Kona Hawaii where they were apart of the mission work of YWAM. After several years of doing God’s work they moved to Orlando Florida and enjoyed the East Coast for many years. When Dan’s health began to fail, they moved back to California to live in one of Dan’s favorite places, the Paradise area of Butte County California. They settled in the small hamlet of Magalia. Dorothy’s husband of 52 years passed in 1999.

Dorothy remarried Pastor David Henry Scrimgeour on September 2, 2001.Dorothy and David remained active in the Paradise/Magalia area and served the Lord by teaching and ministering in the Southern Baptist Church of Paradise. David passed in 2012. Dorothy carried on teaching a women’s bible study until her health began to fail. Dorothy lived at Sunshine Assisted Living until the Butte County Camp Fire of 2018. Dorothy evacuated down to Santa Rosa to live with her youngest daughter until she went to be with her Lord on May 5th 2019.
