Christmas

December 25, 2011

Douglas loved our Christmas Eve get togethers at mama's house. We have surely missed his being there. He loved to come in and fix his plate of food and fuss at the rest of us about what we were eating and how we better save more for him. He was truely the happy go lucky person and would always make us smile. He enjoyed Christmas as much if not more than the little kids. When we are all together now, his presence is felt, and the joy he brought to us all is there. We miss him so very much. He and daddy are now together and watching over us all.

Tasting the wine.

September 5, 2011

When we were very small, me, Doug, mama, and daddy were going to the fishcamp to eat. It was a very dark and stormy night and we were driving down a lonesome road. There was an older lady standing on the side of the road waving her hands and yelling for help. My daddy stopped to help her, against my mama's wishes. She said that she heard what sounded like a gun shot and now  something red is running down her wall from the ceiling. My daddy and Douglas went inside while my mom, me and the lady sat in the car. My daddy came back out of the house laughing and stated that he was going to look in the attic and while he was looking for a way up, Doug put his finger in the red stuff running down the wall and tasted it, he said "daddy this ain't blood, its wine." The lady laughed and stated that she had hidden wine up there a long time ago and it must have busted. She ranted and raved about how brave my brother was. I think of this often, and yes he was very brave.
