Thinking of you again today Grampy. Time has not healed the pain of losing my best friend, and I will always miss you. Something happened in my life recently, and it was then that I really missed you the most. Knowing I couldn't just pick up the phone and confide in you about it really hurts. I know you would have had the right advice as you always did when I was in bits over things

Jam Doughnut Day

April 6, 2013

When we were very small, he used to buy us fresh cream cakes, so when mam told him off saying that he was to stop it as we were too young to appreciate it, he started buying us jam doughnuts instead.

We to this day keep up the tradition of "jam doughnut day" in memory of Grampy, and always make sure the rest of the family are synchronised so that we all have jam doughnuts on the same day. Though we did change that on his 100th Birthday and had cream cakes instead as a celebration.

He never liked being called Grandad as he thought it made him sound old, so me and my brother started calling him Grampy instead.

I remember when we were in trouble with mum and dad, and they sent us to bed and then left Grampy in charge, and when they had left, he came up with sweets, toys, money and magazines for us and told us not to tell our parents. They came home early and we had to quickly hide everything under our beds. That is one of the many things I will always hold in my heart.
