Its been a full rotation around the sun without you Jeff. That's really crazy. As a family, we are still trying to cope without you but continue to make many memories. Of course we wish you could be here with us but we know that you are with us in spirit, always! We miss you every day but we keep in mind W.W.D.J.Y.D. to help us keep your memory with us. For me, I try to live life more intentionally. For my dad, its conquering his fear of heights by riding a roller coaster on the Las Vegas Strip. We know that you would get a kick out of all our life adventures. I can see your big smile & hear your goofy laugh every day!

I'm an old Ski/Bike buddy of Jeff's. I didn't see him often in recent years but was happy to bump into him late summer and catch up. I didn't know he'd been through so much this winter and was really sorry to hear about him passing as I was thinking about him over the holidays. Jeff was a great guy and impacted everyone he knew positively. I have great memories of cycling and skiing (and laughing) with Jeff, trip to the Marcialonga ski race in Italy, etc. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, he will be greatly missed.

Our families go way back

January 21, 2019

The Yue and Tsai families have known each other since 1948, when Jeff's father Dr. W.Y. Yue and my father Dr. S.H. Tsai were in medical training together at the Glen Lake Sanatorium.

The following story came from my mother, who got it from Jeff's mother Nadine.  When Jeff was 3 or 4 years old, he remarked to someone he didn't know:  "Lady, I like your hat."  Thus, we can see that even an early age, Jeff already had excellent people skills.

I remember that our families spent Christmas Eve 1962 together at the Yue home in Deephaven.  Jeff must have been around 3 at the time, and to keep him occupied while guests were present, Nadine gave him an early Christmas present of a Firebird 99.  If you're not familiar with it, the Firebird 99 by Remco was a toy plastic battery-powered dashboard with a steering wheel and a windshield wiper that went back and forth (that's what the battery was for).  You can find it on Google.  Jeff was giving it a pretty good workout.  I don't think he broke it, but it did keep him occupied.

My Uncle Jeff was an incredible human. It’s difficult to put into words the lasting impression he has left on me and so many others. Jeff was truly one of the most charismatic, humorous and loving individuals I have ever known. I wish everyone got a chance to be in his presence just once.

I have told this story a handful of times over the past few days but I think it is such a Jeff story and captures many aspects of his personality. My uncle Jeff loved to cross country ski. I also skied. It wasn’t my favorite thing in the world but I survived 4 years on the team in high school. Jeff always wanted to go skiing and come to my races.

I remember the first (and last) race he came to. This was during a time that I was not very good at skiing and wasn’t quite comfortable with racing. While nervously waiting in the start corral, I see my Uncle Jeff casually ski by and say, “Go Murray!” I thought, “OH NO.” Side Note: casual to Jeff was close to Olympic standards for most. I thought Jeff would ski a lap and become a spectator once I left the corral. I was mistaken. I turn the bend and there is Jeff, “Come on, Murray!” I ski past him and focus on getting through the race. Not long after, I hear the sound of skis gliding quite close and poles hitting the snow. I think, “Just pass me, please.” Then I hear, “Go Murray, Go!” He wasn’t possibly going to follow me the whole race, was he? We get to a hill and I think, “Ok, now he’ll ski past me! No way he’ll follow me up this hill.” But he did. “Come on, Murray! Go Murray!” Uncle Jeff was right on my tail for the full 2 laps around Elm Creek.

At the time I was slightly embarrassed but I’m so happy that I have that memory to share with everyone because that’s just Jeff. He was so passionate about everything he did and always wanted others to enjoy what they were doing!
