Dearest Dr. Williams

October 2, 2014

Dr. Williams was one of the most important persons in my life. He was not only my husband. He was also my father, mother, brother, uncle, my best friend. He was the only person I could call and talk about anything without reserve.

When I met him in 2006, he was working to raise funds for the Black Heritage Museum. One day I spend almost the whole day with him at his office. Helping him to stuff envelopes, organize labels, answering telephones, opening mail, etc. Being a business owner I’m used to hard work and long hours. Every time I tried to leave his office, he stopped me saying we are going for dinner. It was almost 9: pm, when we finally left his office, on our way home he stopped at a drive in to order salads. Then we arrived to his house and he was eating at his desk in his home office while opening mail  envelopes.

Before I choose to leave the house it was passing midnight and he was still seated at his desk answering emails.  I asked him; why work with so much effort and without financial reward?

He looked at me and continued moving papers on his desk and said;

Egoism is our sad example

When we pray, we pray for ourselves only

When provide we only think on our own children

As if the other parents didn’t have any

When I sadly observe the world, I impose on myself a hard journey

And I know that my example is small and humble

But I feel the passion to fight for those that don’t fight

To ask for those that don’t ask

I rather be like the fresh air, which goes everywhere offering everybody fresh breeze

We have to live giving, always giving…

I left his house that night thinking; this guy is crazy!

It took me a few years to completely understand his beautiful point of view. Following on his good example I temporarily became involved as a volunteer on a couple of non-profit organizations. It is a great feeling like he said. But only very special born people like Dr. Williams can dedicate their whole time to these endeavors.

The love of his life was his first wife and his children.

His passion was the realization of the Black Heritage Museum.

His dream was the wellbeing of the children of the whole wide world.
