In remembrance of Dr. A.E. Ezeilo, a widely respected individual in his field and beyond. As a close friend to his son, I vividly recall the days when he would generously drive us home from school. Both his son and I were ardent music enthusiasts, and driven by our passion, we would most times hold our impromptu rap sessions at his house, though unsure if he was cool with all that, he never once let our youthful exuberance dampen his kindness. He was a guiding figure whose understanding was the hallmark of a great man. Rest in peace, Sir.

Late Dr. Augustine Ezenta Ezeilo lived a remarkable life and left indelible marks in the lives of many. He was one of few men who cherished family over everything. During one of my interactions with him, I did asked him his opinion about his wife's work as a rights activist. He beamed a smile and replies thus "I have a lot of respect for my wife Prof Joy Ngozi Ezeilo. My kinsmen loves her too becuase she has a lot of commonsenstical intenligence. If ever I return back to life after death, I desire to marry her again". What more can I say to a good man? Rest on...Sir.
My prayer is that God grants your kind soul eternal rest and console my dear boss Prof Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, her children and the entire Ezeilo's family.
Amen.

It took me some time to find the right words.
Dr. Ezeilo impressed me the first time I met him, him being such a humble person. The second time he helped me in the middle of a serious illness.
His death will leave a void in our lives. But he will live on in our memories.

It was with shock that we received news of the passing of Dr. Ezenta Ezeilo (Ezeudo), husband of Prof. Joy Ezeilo a sister and partner in the advancement of women’s rights in Nigeria. We will remember him for his unflinching support towards his wife’s vision and ambition which has translated to her outstanding achievements, a rear attribute seen in the average African man today. We will also not forget his outstanding professionalism and contributions towards developmental progress in the healthcare sector in Enugu State and Nigeria as a whole. We pray that his soul rests peacefully in the bosom of our LORD and that the Lord grants our Sister and her entire family the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss. - Ene Obi, Country Director, ActionAid Nigeria.

Dr. Ezeilo was a good man and a lot of people benefitted from his good deeds including my mother. When my dad passed away, Dr. Ezeilo visited us to pay his condolence and noticed that something was not right about my mum. He took her to the room and checked her blood pressure which he discovered was high. He drove to the pharmacy and bought some medications for her. That happened so many years ago, but we have not forgotten!

TRIBUTE
With a heavy heart but thanksgiving to God for a life well lived in the service of God and humanity, I write this tribute to a man I can unequivocally refer to as a ‘’Man of Peace’’
Doc,(as I fondly call you) ,you were was such a rare person, caring, loving, peaceful and very considerate. You tried to carry or at least share in other people’s burdens. You were a mentor par excellence, ever looking for a way to add value to someone’s life. I have not forgotten that fateful Tuesday morning at UNTH, Enugu where you worked. You invited my father (of blessed memory), a great man at his own time) for counseling on my gaining admission into University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.
An uncle had told him that he might not be able to train me in the University because it would take 10 people wealthier than him to do so. Doc, you vehemently opposed the claim and advised my father that if he could be setting aside N10 every day, he would conveniently achieve that feat and that what happened. With that you made me.
You lived a fulfilled life and spared nothing in attending to the needs of your siblings. Largely, you had fulfilled your purpose on earth. You impacted lives and helped all around you attain their goals. I had thought you would live very long, going by your disposition during the 2020 Christmas celebration. Nevertheless siblings. Largely, you had fulfilled your purpose on earth, you will be remembered by the great legacies you left behind.
I find it difficult to say goodbye, but they are inevitable especially under this circumstance. We may not see you again, but I will forever cherish you in my heart. We take solace in the fact that you had gone to a better place resting in the Loving Arms of our good God. Hallelujah.
Adieu Doc.
Adieu Man of Peace.
It is well with your soul.

We at the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) are saddened to hear about the death of the “King of Peace”, whose elderly counsel to his children and grandchildren shall be greatly missed. He was a selfless, kind-hearted, honourable, easy-going and a wonderful person who has always been a great asset to his community and the country at large, having worked meritoriously as a talented Class Teacher, and then rising up to become a brilliant Medical Doctor and Public Health expert who saved a lot of lives before his retirement and consequent call to glory.

On behalf of myself, and the entire staff and Management of NAPTIP, we condole and sympathize with the family of the demised, particularly his intelligent and adorable wife, Professor Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, OON, over this great loss. May God give you and your family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

It is my firm belief that, the exploits of the late Dr. Augustine Ezenta Ezeilo shall keep reverberating in the annals of history to be rendered as a veritable tool that can be deployed for the purposes of knowledge impartation for posterity.

I have had the opportunity to interact closely with few members of your immediate family. I can testify sir, that you raised great children. It is not usual, in our clime to see a family where everyone exhibits a high level of kindness and charity towards humanity. From your wife, who has positively changed the narrative in protecting the rights of women and girls in Africa to your last child, your family is a poster card and reference point of Love and Kindness. You are a great man and you left a beautiful legacy. May the Holy Spirit console the ones you left behind and may the Lord grant you eternal rest. Amen!

In memory of Dr. A.E. Ezeilo

With a heavy heart, I hail a Peaceful Soul. It is still hard to believe and a struggle to comprehend that we've lost a "Great Gem".

I say a little prayer to all who mourn him especially Aunty Joy, Chido, Nene and Onyi. Can I just say from my experience; nevermind the void, pain, fears and tears, for I know they are all transient. Though your hearts are broken; surely, they will be mended.

And for you "Ezeudo"! Rest in perfect peace, Honorable Leader. Just know you will be dearly missed, but always remembered.

Lots of love:

                    Finest Gentleman
It's sad people seldom find the opportunity to tell those they hold highly - personally or in life time what they represent to them.
For me, Dr. Augustine Ezenta Ezeilo was one of the finest gentleman of Igbo extraction I know and a man of honour; BUT MORE, an epitome of the status HUSBAND as intended by God in life of every girlchild who left behind her family and name to assume his family name.

* Dr. Augustine Ezenta Ezeilo, even as you return home, may all lives you touched directly and indirectly continue to live out a piece of your beautiful heart!
* Sleep on okpotokpo nwa ndi Enugu State; Nukwu donkinta and pride of his own till the trumpet sounds!!
* Fare thee well backend support of Women's Human Rights Cause!!!

I just remember Doc as a very supportive husband, a doting dad and a warm and caring big brother to his beloved Joy’s friends, colleagues, class mates and associates! Above all a peace loving and accommodating man!
I recall with glee the many times we stopped by his Enugu home either for some hours or days depending on which particular ‘event, mission or project’ we were on with Joy, he was always at hand to ensure everyone was well taken care of and comfortable! I can never forget the baskets of my favorite succulent Enugu mangoes ( yummilicious! none like those ...) he would fill our trunks with and his ever so quiet and kind mien while at it!
Joy girl, we mourn with you as I struggle with the loss of my own husband barely a week after Doc! Chido, Nnee and Onyii, I know exactly how heavy it is! Guess what? Our loss? Heavens gain ... Relish the fond memories, keep his legacies aglow as he birthed and nurtured exceptional children, built a formidable family and left in a blaze of glory! So Doc, Ezeudo lives on... be consoled !
May his very kind and peace loving soul sleep supine in Jesus!
Adieu great man, till the Resurrection morning!

TRIBUTE TO A PILLAR OF SUPPORT

"The end of a matter is better than the beginning thereof..." Ecclesiastes 7:8
"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Psalms 116:15

The calmness and firmness you exuded even on your hospital bed before your departure is a testimony to affirm that you lived with understanding of your mission and you accomplished them before taken a bow. Each time I hear your wife (my amiable Boss) appreciate your support, i am usually filled with much admiration for a man who jettisoned patriarchy for the value he placed over others especially his immediate family. You are indeed a pillar of support and will be greatly missed with much fondness.
Having you alive is something no one will want to negotiate but God is unquestionable in the mystery of life and death. Your wife and children and all your admirers will always have you alive in our hearts.
Sleep on Ezeudo until you arise in immortality on that bright and cloudless morning.
Laa nke oma.

Dr Ezeilo was my first brother in- law, he was indeed a honourable man and man of intergrity, he taught me mathematics when I was a young man growing up, he coached and mentored me, his leadership skills are the best I have ever seen, he is always seeking peace in every situation. Time and time again he will treat patients in his clinic for free because they don’t have money, he is a very kind hearted man. The time I have spent with him has definitely helped to shape whom I have become today. He will be greatly missed.
But I know he is resting in heaven.
Farewell my best brother in-law. Ijeoma.
To God be the glory. Amen.

The memory of the righteous will remain a blessing [Proverbs 10:7]

CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF A LOVING, PEACEFUL & HONORABLE MAN.

Dr. Augustine Ezenta Ezeilo made his heavenly transition on March 2, 2021 in Enugu, Nigeria after a brief illness. He was aged 72 years. While his family are saddened by his sudden departure, we are consoled by the impactful and exemplary life that he led.

Dr. Ezeilo was the first Medical Doctor in his community of Imezi-Owa, Ezeagu LGA, Enugu State. He had an illustrious career as a General Practitioner providing compassionate and competent care to family, friends and communities both rural and urban. Subsequently, he obtained a Master’s in Public Health and served honorably as the Director of Public Health Enugu State from 2001 up until his retirement in 2009. Until his death, he was the chairman of Umudim Imezi-Owa Council of Chiefs

He was a selfless, honorable, affable and good-natured man, which was reflected in his chieftaincy title of “Ezeudo.” He championed education, along with personal and professional development; thus, he was a mentor and life coach to many, whom he counseled and gave salient advice. He was approachable, humble and well-liked by those who were opportune to know him. He was privileged to complete a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, where he visited Holy Sites central to the history of Christendom.

Dr. Ezeilo is survived by his wife Professor Joy Ezeilo (Professor of Law) and his three children – Mr. Chidulue Ezeilo, Dr. Nnenna Ezeilo and Ms. Onyinye Ezeilo. He was blessed with two grandchildren - Ezra and Adaeze. He is also survived by a daughter in law Alena Ezeilo, his sister, two brothers, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Farewell to a caring, diplomatic, amicable and accomplished man. His family looks forward to having relatives, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers join with us in celebrating a life well-lived. Ezeudo, we will strive to carry on your great legacy, especially that of integrity, kindness and humility.
