    TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND
There is a man I have come to love,a man who cared,a man who shared,a man who knew life,a man with a wonderful family. He was a father,a husband,a grand father,an amazing father-in-law,and now he is gone.
Tete, despite the pain that lingers in the core of my being. I've got to try and let go. As the tears rolls down and as I seek peace to stop the pain,I pray to God to grant you peace as well. I am happy to call you my dad and am proud to be your daughter-in-law. I will miss your jokes, your laughter, I will miss you calling me Ada'm, I will miss so many things about you.
Tete your love and peaceful memories are still our guide.
Rest well my precious father-in-law

Love leaves a memory no one can steal, but death leaves a memory no one can heal. Its sad to know that my dad left us,but again it's a loving memory for me when I think about the life of my dad and all he did for my siblings and I and the good memories we spent together.
Your death left a scar in our hearts but your legacy will stand in our life. You were my hero, you were the most courageous and resourceful man. We will miss you dad.
Farewell to an icon.

Uncle,
You came, you saw, you conquered. I'm glad to have known you for most of my life. Your love for knowledge, the national geographic and books will never be forgotten nor the malaria jabs which got us back on our feet. Thank you for everything. May your soul rest in peace. Till we meet again.

Eheh! Eheh! Every time giri_giri_giri... Those were his exact words on numerous occasions when i'd bump into him in my traditional way of jumping down the stairs. Indeed fond memories,

Your loud laughs from deep within, your relentlessness to keep an atmosphere of cheer and bright with jokes and short stories of your childhood and growing up. Your open love and ever welcoming arms to everyone of us your children (as we have a rich heritage of having many fathers and mothers growing up).

No doubt, no contest, you did live a great life touching and inspiring many and very importantly embraced Christ.

I love you daddy and I will indeed really miss you.

ADIEU Dr. Chika Ogbonna till we meet at the feet of our Father (Jehovah)

Rest in Perfect Peace...

Tete, I feel an overwhelming sense of loss and pain at this moment of your passing on. You saw, your fought. You overcame.
You radiated the greatness and generosity of your spirit. You were a brilliant, powerful Light. I experienced your kindness, selfless love and service to me, all family members and everyone that crossed your path. No words can express how much I and my entire family love and appreciate you. Tete, you live in our hearts. I stand in the knowledge and I am consoled that the ALMIGHTY, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent LORD of this wondrous Creation is in absolute charge of everything concerning you. Tete, you bear the Holy Power and Love of the ALMIGHTY FATHER in your heart, the very core of your being, in your spirit, and HE, the ALMIGHTY holds you firmly in HIS MIGHTY HAND. It is too painful to say goodbye. Ever green is our memory of you.
MAY THE LORD ALMIGHTY FATHER BE WITH YOU.

D-Doc, my doc, you were a rare one, a special one. So cosmopolitan, a humane human being. I was your patient in your clinic in Mokola hill. I was Amelia's and Ninette's VicePrincipal in St Louis. I was your adorable wife's secret admirer. On all fronts you were simply wonderful. My joy is that you have played your role on mother earth as of the Lord to deserve the angelic welcome from the hosts of heaven. May your soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace .

Dear Dr Ogbonna, the news of your demise was unexpected. So sad!
You were a reliable brother and friend to my family.
We often had thoughts of meeting you and your family after moving to the east. We will never forget your kindness and care especially when we had challenging health issues.
Our warmest regards to your family especially your wife and Danny boy.

Dearest Doctor, you were simply a rare kind of man. You were indeed prepared by God for the career path you bestrode like a colossus. You were an embodiment of what a true doctor should be, humble, kind, compassionate, honest and extremely hardworking.

I cannot forget those great moments we shared together. The wide age gap between us meant nothing to you. We conversed like mates. You were your ever lively self and led the conversation most times, narrating major world events, personalities and history, even local ones. And I learned quite a few things from you.

May the Lord in his mercy remember all your good deeds, forgive any shortcomings on your part and reward you with an eternal rest in his presence.

Rest in peace amazing doctor!

I received with great shock, but with gratitude to God for an impactful life of service, the death of Dr Ogbona. As a former neighbour, my children were friends of his children, and a couple of times when I went to pick them up, I met a man with a large heart, along with his amiable wife, whose doors were opened to all. He was a great physician and a very devoted family man. His able wife must be no doubt devastated. Yes, it's a great loss, but be comforted by the many lives he touched and the reminiscences of the wonderful time you had together. God will comfort you. Hold on to Him. He is husband to the widow. When I lost my husband seven years ago, I did not know I could go on but God helped me. May the soul of the departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace. May God preserve his legacy and comfort the entire family in Jesus' Name. Amen.

This really came as a shock. I know people grow old but still we wish our parents could remain with us. I knew Dr Ogbonna to be a good and successful father and medical doctor. I remember he used to pick me up from school occasionally with his daughters Amelia and Ninette. I wish I still had the opportunity to thank him for what he did back then. May God comfort all especially his family and grant his soul a peaceful rest. Sleep gently Papa.

I remember growing up in Jericho Ibadan. Being family friends with Dr Chika's children, my siblings and I visited their home frequently to play. One thing was clear and that was the fact that Dr Chika Ogbonna was a fine gentleman, easy going and he loved his family deeply. Very generous and accommodating. He was a doctor of repute and a man of integrity. You will sure be missed Sir . May God grant your soul eternal rest and grant the entire family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Amen

My ever cheerful uncle,
I am still bewildered by the fact that you are no more in the land of the living. Your kind words of encouragement and love towards me and my family. You were so accommodating, generous, full of songs and stories I will never forget. I love you uncle but God loves you more. I rejoice in the fact that in your last days you gave your life to Christ and was a committed Christian.
Rest In Peace. My great great Uncle.

So shocking to hear about your passing. Dr. Ogbonna, though not my biological father but a father to me nonetheless. I spent a lot of time with and around him growing up. I remember all the errands Christian and I ran for him, all the life lessons he shared.

My dear uncle, words can’t express how I feel about you going home to be with the Lord. I’m however comforted by the generous, kind, and gracious life you lived.

Thank you for all of those years of helping our family when my mother was so worried about our health. Your comforting words, open doors, and free medical attention, nurturing us back to health when each of us fell sick is something that amazes and inspires me till today.

I loved seeing you smile every time you saw me. Thank you so much for giving me such wonderful memories. I love you uncle. Rest in power Dr. Chika! ❤️❤️

His Life

Dr Chika Ogbonna's biography

March 6, 2022
Born to the family of Mr Ndubueze & Mrs Mgbugo Ndubueze Ogbonnaya in Uzuakoli Abia State in December 1938 as the second out of seven brothers. The young Chika Ogbonna was known to always accompany his mother to the market and his father everywhere he went. As a growing child, he had a flair for fine art so much that every available wall was a canvas for a beautiful drawing. As a young child, he attended the Methodist Central School, Item in Abia State and then Okongu Memorial Grammar School in Nnewi, Anambra State where his interest in fine art received recognition in the Shell BP school services. His sketches were the best and this won him a golden parker pen as a prize.

After his school certificate, he joined his elder Ohalete Daniel Ogbonna brother in Lagos where he worked with the prisons department and also enrolled with the Federal Emergency Science School, Lagos in 1965 with the interest in pursuing a medical career.

In 1965, he embarked on an educational journey to Britain where he obtained his A Levels at the College of Science and Technology in the city of Blackburn, England and then went on to attend the State University Milan, Italy in 1968. Whilst in Milan, finance was a challenge due to the Nigerian Civil war however he obtained a scholarship which led to a medical degree in 1975 in the city of Milan.
He soon visited Nigeria to see his parents whom he hadn’t seen due to his studies and the Nigerian civil war. He obtained a postgraduate fellowship in plastic reconstructive surgery in 1978. Whilst in Milan undertaking his studies, he met and became friends with a young lady from the Seychelles (Marie-Anne Lespoir).

During the course of his studies, his friendship with the young Seychellois lady Marie-Anne had in the meantime blossomed into a beautiful union and the couple soon welcomed their first two children (Margaret Adaoha and Christian Nnamdi) in 1976 and 1978 respectively whilst living and working in Bergamo.

Dr Chika’s yearning to give back to his beloved country of origin soon saw him relocate to Nigeria in 1979 to take up an appointment at the University College Hospital Ibadan initially as a registrar in surgery and later as senior registrar in plastic surgery until he was moved to Adeoyo State hospital in 1985. Dr Chika and Mary-Anne went on to have 4 more children over the years (Amelia Ngozi, Ninette Ugonnaya, Daniel Ohalete and Norma Nneoma).

He worked at Adeoyo State Hospital from 1985 to 2008 where he held various positions ranging from Consultant Plastic Surgeon until he retired in the post of Chief Consultant after a distinguished life of selfless service to his patients and the Ibadan community. Dr Chika also published numerous professional journals and articles over the course of his distinguished career.

He was a much beloved and respected figure in the medical community in Ibadan and there was hardly any major hospital where he didn’t have extensive contacts or where the mention of his name did not bring fond tales of his kindness and selflessness as a doctor.

Despite his health challenges in the latter years, he spent his retirement enjoying the company of his children and grandchildren and reminiscing over what was no doubt a very blessed and purposeful life. He finally passed on to glory on Saturday 6th March 2021 leaving his much beloved wife of over 40yrs, children, grandchildren, brothers, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
