Tributes

In writing this tribute, I take solace in the words of King Solomon, as recorded in Ecclesiastics 3: 1 -2, “To everything, there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven, a time to be born and a time to die”. You were born at the fullness of time and at the season, you had cause to die, as the Lord your creator had designed.
I certainly know that you were a good and loving father to your children, a true soul mate to your wife, a friend indeed to many friends, especially to me and my family. You were a man of great value and virtue; you loved God and the things of God. You lived a God-fearing life, as demonstrated by your humbleness, kind-heartedness, peaceful living, love and care. You were disciplined in every aspect of life.
I could go on writing good stories about you. It could be the greatest story ever told of a legend that had a generous heart of gold. You never get tired of helping anyone that was in need, even when they did not ask for it.
Above all, you lived a fulfilled life; you gave God the best and your best devotion. Your home was always open to me and my family. Your warm reception and accommodative life style is second to none. You have always seen me as an extension of your family, hence on the 28th of December 2020, when your son (Kelechi) got married, I was among the three family members that you chose to negotiate the dowry.
Your death has created a very big vacuum in the Presbyterian Church and the Synods in particular.
What else can I say other than thank you and good bye.
Rest in perfect peace.

Dad, I remember!

Even before I turned 10, you gave me your bible to read from, when you noticed how I struggled with "Thousts and shouldests" in my little King James Bible. My Teacher.

My love for music blossomed under your room as I practiced on that mini keyboard, and later, on the grand piano. My Maestro.

As a teenager, you took me golfing with Kelechi. My first rookie experience. We were your caddies. My Coach.

How could I forget my first visit to a church as an assistant to the guest minister (you), or my first prison outreach, especially as you gave me your own breakfast to eat on our way. My Mentor.

The ambience of your home and aura of your presence, dinner times and night devotions, I remember.

It took me so long to finally write this dad because I hoped to wake up from this dream and not remember, but Dad, there's a lot more I remember!

Your son you took in,
Eze (Ogboke) Ajali.

Tribute to my cousin Dr Chinyere Nkele

Chinyere was more than a cousin to me, he was a close friend. He escorted me to the airport in Lagos on my trip to the USA to study in 1973.
He was a brilliant and very family oriented young man. He loved music and was fond of Dean Martin’s recordings and movies. I remembered watching Dean’s movie titled “Who was that lady”.
As a teenager, he could sing the lyrics of Dean Martin’s music off-head. His friends nicknamed him ‘Dino” - the nickname for Dean Martin. He always exhibited vast knowledge of current affairs and was an encyclopedia of facts. That was when I knew he had the memory suited for the Medical Profession. He turned out to be a damn good physician/surgeon.

Dr Chinyere Nkele
May your Pious Soul rest in eternal peace

MY BIIIIGGGGG BROTHER, DR CEE
By Ebere Nkele Agu
for the
Victor Nduka Agu Family

Funny, very funny, always seeking for comic situations to brighten up a conversation. His aim is always to leave you cheered up, smiling, and for you to see him as very approachable.

He was the first of eight siblings. I am the seventh of those eight. There were 6 boys and 2 girls in the Aluma Nkele family now we are down to 4 boys and 1 girl in a space of 1 year.

Dr Cee always dropped sayings like “Cut your coat according to your size”, What would it profit a man to gain the whole world and loose his soul”, “You must keep the family name and honor in view and intact in all you do”.

My big brother was kind, had a heart of giving, defended the downtrodden fiercely, protected nature. He stood for order, lived by rules, and played by the books.

My big brother was also strict like my father and led us by being such an examplary son and brother.

Dr. Chi was very professional in his approach to his career as a medical doctor. Kept up to the expectant ethics of his profession. He was not one person here and another there.

It was his role as our father and head of the Aluma Nkele extended family that was most impressive. He took this role very seriously, sowing into every family member’s life. He made sure each individual member noticed his presence, his role, his influence and his love.
We, his siblings, the grand children and great grandchildren will miss his leadership tremendously.

He has lived his life, left his legacy, impressed upon us all what matters most in life ( A life in Christ) and walked away in glory, with his head held high, a bowler hat twirl, unforgettable dance steps, a mouth full of praise to his creator, and no bitterness towards any.

It is now left to us the living to remember these lessons from one of our ancestors and follow his footsteps.

I love you because you were so loveable, so endearing, so patient, so caring , and so family oriented. We will remember all your sacrifices, your humility, your exemplary walk with Christ, your fight to save and alleviate people from their helpless state, your strength of character not to waiver even in the face of pity, your sense of duty, sense of justice for all, your ability to temper justice with mercy. Dr. Cee - you are my hero! I will always remember your chuckles and the way you call my name. I really enjoyed my relationship with you. I will be your subordinate any day any time.

Now regarding you accepting Christ as your Lord and Saviour, a pledge and agreement you went into willingly and really lived by, I am proud to say you were a true Christian Soldier.

Christ Awaits! Adieu My Big Brother
