Dr. Joseph H. Howe, age 85, of Mullica Hill, NJ passed away peacefully on November 22, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Lois. Devoted father, “Papa” of Danielle (Peter), Annie (John) and Elizabeth (Matthew). Loving Grandfather, “Grampy” of Tessa, Audrey, Andrew, Bella, Jack, Emma Jean and Joseph.

Joseph was born in Jersey City, NJ on October 9, 1936 to Joseph and Mary (Lindeman) Howe. Loving brother to Kenneth (Carolyn) and Maryann (Edward). Preceded in death by siblings Dorothy (Michael), and James (Anita).

He studied pharmacy at St. John’s University and proudly served as a pharmacist in the United States Army, stationed in Bad Tölz, Germany. He went on to receive his medical degree from the University of the State of Mexico. He loyally served countless patients as a physician on staff at Our Lady of Lourdes for 36 years, as well as a part of his internal medicine practice in Bellmawr, NJ.

Joseph was a lifelong learner, constantly surrounded by his collection of books. He practiced tai chi, yoga, and mindfulness daily, forever working to be his best self for those he loved and served. Joseph loved the outdoors. In his youth, he spent his free time hiking, snowshoeing and canoeing. He later shared this love with his family. Joseph loved all animals, especially his cat Dexter.

At the center of Joseph’s life was faith and family. He was a devoted Catholic and saw God in all things and people around him. This helped guide him to be an extraordinarily empathic physician, father, son, brother, grandfather and friend. He loved his beautiful wife, Lois more and more each day. They were an example of lasting love to all that knew them. Perhaps his favorite job was that of “Grampy” or “P.” He showered his grandchildren in constant love paired with his cherished sense of humor.

He lived every day with gratitude. He spoke with intention and used his words to make those around him feel loved and valued. He will truly be missed and always loved.

Viewing Sunday, Nov. 28 from 6-8 pm and Monday, Nov. 29 from 10:30 to 11:15 am at the CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT PARISH CENTER, 17 Earlington Ave., Mullica Hill, NJ 08062, where Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:30 am. Interment Woodbury Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Jude's Children's Hospital would be deeply appreciated. www.stjude.org

My family and I first met Dr. Joseph Howe and his lovely wife Lois, and their family about 30 years ago. We had moved into the same neighborhood they lived in. He was such a tall rather quiet, and kind man with quite a sense of humor, and was a dedicated , professional to his patients. Always cordial and friendly, he and his wife Lois invited us to join in many of their special family celebrations. We have been so blessed to have known and shared our lives with Joe and his wonderful, loving family.
