Likita!!!

I can't believe l am doing this. It is just too painful. Why oh why?? Your name will always be etched in the story of my life. Your wife Janerose is my maternal first cousin, I was chief bridesmaid at your wedding and you introduced me to Henry who became my husband.
You made me feel perfect because I never did anything wrong in your eyes. Most people said you gave them nicknames, but you didn't give me any, rather l gave you Likita ( Dr in Hausa) and that came about on one of my trips to Maiduguri. Aaah, you will be sorely missed. May God grant you eternal rest. Your funeral was befitting of you. Likita Ogbueshi!!

My dear uncle Eloka,

You were very welcoming and accommodating. Always there to help, support and give advice. I think of you often and smile at memories of your laughter, stories, voice and smile I always deemed mischievous. A wise man who had enough life experiences and lessons to share. One thing I loved the most about you is that you always showed up. You were always proud of my accomplishments and never shied away from showing them off. You constantly showed concern about me and never failed to admonish me for being alone in the room instead of joining everyone in the living room.

Thank you for your love and taking up the role as a father in my life.

I miss you, uncle, rest in peace.

Dear uncle,
I wish I got to talk to you one more time, just to tell you how things were going. Our conversations were never dull and your words were nothing short of energetic and caring. I still remember you shouting “The goz!” Every time I saw you, and how you would speak to me about our family’s history and roots. You always told me to make you proud uncle. With the inspirational things you’ve done and paths you’ve lead, it’ll be easy for me to keep pushing to make you proud. To my motivational, passionate, caring uncle : rest in perfect peace.

I celebrate your life with gladness yet sadness in my heart that you left us like this. God knows best, so till we meet at the end of it all adieu uncle. A jolly man goes home to papa. The life of the party, the humour in our rigidity, the reminiscer of the good old days, the lancelot to our rescue the cool dude who understood lifes mistakes, the brashest yet calm, the mischief laughs, squinted and sometimes dazed eyed. Will surely miss your face. Abuah gatherings won't feel the same. Your absence will always be felt, that vacuum. We love you but God loves you best. RIP Doctor, Police, commissioner, Ogbueshi Arnold Oseloka Abuah.

Dr. Abuah was, how can I write 'was', how?
Dr. Abuah is a great man! He has lovely and wisdom laden words whenever we meet while walking in the Estate.... oh in my 1st Stakeholder Meeting in the Estate, in less than 10minutes of encounter he so warmed up towards me, that warmth that didn't diminished a bit 5plus years after.
Dr. Abuah your kind are so rare. Your love for humanity is awesome. You spoke your mind wisely brash. I will miss you.
I shall continue to maintain my smiling mien courtesy your ORDER.
SLEEP WELL. FAREWELL.
YOUR MEMORY IS BLESSED.
Hey we had a seat out for you yesterday as an Estate. Did you dance in heaven? Did you enjoy those renditions.

FAREWELL Sir, OGBUESHI Dr. ARNOLD OSELOKA ABUAH

Abuzillo as we fondly called him in the Medical School: A GOOD MAN IS GONE TO WITH THE LORD. Our paths first crossed when we reported in College of Medicine as freshmen in 1971. Totally detribalised guy associating more with we yorubas than his own people. He was a complete gentleman who stood firmly for anything he believed in. After Medical School we had an opportunity to interact again when he was posted to Police Clinic in Maiduguri, Borno State. I was heavily involved in handball which took me to Maidugri frequent. Abuzillo was always there as a very receptive host. We also recently got together when our Medical School set celebrated 40 year of leaving school. The announcement of his passing was indeed a very rude shock. It was a loss of a great and good friend. About a year ago , a day before his last birthday, he called me and said ' Glovy make sure you remember to post my birthday as I want all my classmates to greet me. I did, and little did I realize that would be the last birthday wish by his Medical School classmates. He passed on 2 days before his birthday. May his gentle soul rest in perfect and may the Almighty God grant his wife. Children. Friends and classmates the fortitude to bear the loss. ABUZILLO ADIEU

Dear Uncle Eloka

I really can’t believe that you’re gone but I know if you were here you yourself will laugh and tell me to get a grip of myself and that that’s life for you.

When I was in secondary school, you were my father   whilst I was in Ilorin. I don’t think I will have been able to finish there if not for you and aunty. I was the cool kid who’s uncle was commissioner and so the teachers and other seniors had to thread with caution with me :)

I remember when I moved back to Lagos and whenever I was harassed by the police I will simply call you and you were always there for me. You will advise and talk to me and make sure I was safe.

You were always so cheerful and fun to be around with. We thank God for the rich life you lived whilst touching lots of people with your kindness, generosity and service to the world.

Till we see again, adieu.

It was with great shock and pain that I learnt of your death, Dr Ogbueshi. Arnold Abuah (Nkem’s daddy). You were a very good and kind father in law to my daughter, Uwa and a loving and caring father to your children. We will all miss you dearly.  Rest on in the bosom of the Lord until the resurrection morning when we shall all meet to part no more. May your soul rest in perfect peace, Amen.

Our dear Uncle Eloka a very nice man, you were a father to me and my children, you were my brother in-law, you were my friend, you called me your favorite wife, my nick name was “chop my money” and you had for my husband and children too.... whenever I needed your help i called without hesitation......so surprising am addressing you as “you were” i am still shocked that you are no more..... the last time we were with you shortly before your demise, you advised me on the types of vitamins to take for healthy living, This is painful.
Your memory remains evergreen in our hearts.... as I write my eyes are filled with tears. But we are consoled in the hope that you are resting in the bosom of the Lord, you are sorely missed uncle. We love you, but God loves you more. Rest In Peace

Dad,

One of the last fond memories I have of you is from spending 2020 Christmas with you, listening to you sharing stories of your early days in Lagos and Asaba. I remember you smiling as you looked at us that day and said, “this is what Christmas is about – Family”. In that moment, this statement did not mean so much to me. But now that I realize it was the last Christmas we got to spend with you as a family, it means everything to me and I am thankful. It still does not feel real that you are gone. I miss hearing your loud voice booming from the parlour as you commented on TV shows or you ‘gisted’ with your friends and family.

Dad, you welcomed me with open arms into the family and you have been a constant pillar of support reminding us to always focus on God. Quick to advice, ever ready to offer encouragement and full of wisdom with a cheerful grin is the way I will always remember you.

This is a painful pill to swallow but God knows best. I am comforted by the time we got to spend together and the fond memories I have of you. You lived your life to the fullest with no apologies and no regrets.

Your legacy lives on.

We miss you so much. Rest in peace with the angels.

Your daughter,
Uwa Abuah

Uncle Elokay, the news of your demise was a rude shock to us. We spoke two weeks before your passing, you were your usual self. Nothing to show that you were that ill. May your soul Rest In Peace and God grant JaneRose and your lovely children the fortitude to bear the loss.

Abuz, I find it difficult to believe you have passed on. It really saddens me that things came to this sorry pass. I spoke with you less than two weeks before it happened. You were your usual boisterous self and laughed heartily at my jokes. I pray God to rest you in His bosom and grant those you left behind the fortitude to bear the loss. Our God will restore in His own way. Adieu Eloka

Oseloka was a perfect gentleman, indeed an officer and a gentleman. It was such a blessing to have him as the father in law of my daughter Uwa. The first time we met, it was as if we had known each other for years. His laughter was infectious and indeed from the heart. Our last conversation was during the yuletide season and was as usual full of jokes.
I will miss him sorely.
May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

My dear brother Eloka, this is one of the most painful tasks I have had to endure. That I am writing this tribute to you is to finally accept that you are no longer with us in the physical.
You were so many things to my family and I. You were a junior brother like no other to me; a supportive in-law to my wife; an uncle to my children and a good friend to every one of us.
Oseloka Arnold Abuah was remarkable in so many ways: a dedicated Police Officer and a gentleman who lived his life to the fullest. He had a good sense of humour and was the live of every party - everyone loved him! He was such a free-spirited man who could relate with both the young and the old alike. Eloka was not a cruel man. He was outspoken and never let anyone or anything stand in the way of making things right.
He loved his family profoundly and was extremely proud of each of them, I personally admired the way he took his duties in life to heart and strove to love, honour and support his family. Eloka performed all these with great pride.
Eloka, the news of your passing came to me as a rude shock. It is indeed a huge loss to those of us left behind to mourn you. I never got a chance to say goodbye to you dear brother!
To say that you would be sourly missed is an understatement!

Rest in peace my brother my friend.

May your humorous soul find eternal rest with God. Adieu Ogbueshi Dr Abua.

Oga Olopa , it is hard to accept that you have left us and our telephone discussion on the 3rd of January would be the last .
Our paths crossed over 27years ago when I came visiting with Ngozi my wife . You were firm, bold with a sociable and friendly disposition. There was never a dull moment in your company and fond memories of you will always bring a smile to our faces.
I will miss you my big brother, friend and great inlaw .
You fought the good fight, you have finished your race and the crown of Glory awaits you .
Sleep on uncle, rest in the bosom of the Lord.

My dearest Dr. Abuah, my heart is so heavy as I write this. Where do I begin? I got to know you early 2002 and it has been a huge pleasure knowing you. After my husband passed away you were one of the very few I kept in touch with and the reason being that you would always tell me the truth and give me good advice as to how to go about things. I could confide in you and know that you would never mislead me. For most of the big decisions I took after my husband passed away, I had your backing and your blessings which gave me a huge sense of peace. Most times I text you, you will not reply but call instead and say “ Chima I want to hear your voice, call me and not text me”. I would laugh cos yes that was who you were to me. You would always ask to see pictures of the children and from time to time you wanted a video call to see us all and be sure we were doing okay. You would always ask how tall the children were. You were such a delight. You were like a second father to me. While we were still in nigeria, each time I got in trouble with police and I called you, you would ask me to give the officer my phone and you always told them I was your daughter and they should kindly let me go. You were a great help to my entire family. There was no major health issues that any member of my family faced that we didn’t seek your opinion, even just recently, few months ago my mum insisted she wanted to hear your opinion about my older brother’s surgery and wanted to know if you had a doctor you could refer him to. My younger brother also was reminding me the other day about a time while he was still in University in awka and he was sick, I had asked you what treatment he could take and you got his number from me and called him and you had told him to stop disturbing me and that if he tries coming to lagos cos he was homesick that you will lock him up, . We laughed so badly cos yes that was who you were, though the doctor in you asked him to go run some tests and when he got back to you with the results, you prescribed medications for him. I miss you so much. Few weeks to your death I had asked you if you were feeling okay and you said yes. I was so shocked to hear the news of your passing. I pray The Almighty grants Aunty Jane and the entire family you left behind the fortitude to bear this great and irreparable loss. May you be a guardian angel on those you left behind. May your beautiful soul keep resting in peace . Miss you Dr. Abuah!

Uncle Eloka,
It still feels like a bad dream, hoping to wake up and see you smiling and cracking jokes.
My relationship with you started about 19yrs ago when I got married to your wife’s brother on your wedding anniversary Dec 15th. You were a jolly good fellow and there was never a dull moment with you. You cracked so many jokes which made me laugh so hard. I always had a wonderful time whenever I visited you and you were a delight to speak to over the phone. Our hearts are very heavy and sad at your loss but God knows best. May you rest in the bosom of the Lord. May God comfort your family like only He can. It is Well in Jesus Name, Amen

You were there for everybody.  You had a nick name for all of us.  Mine was Ify Milk, my wife’s was Mary Stone.  You laughed at everything.  You were one person I could not figure what makes you angry.  Abuzee was always a happy man.  Always willing to help anyone who had Police trouble.  Even on your hospital bed your help was one phone call away.
Abuah Police, we pray that God will receive your soul in heaven and grant you eternal rest.  May he comfort the family you left behind.  Your kindness and laughter will forever remain your legacy
