Shawn Barry Harmon, beloved husband, father, brother, nephew, physician, and passionate worshiper of Jesus passed from this life on June 7, 2023. Shawn was born in Kewanee, Illinois on January 20, 1967 to Warren and Virginia (Ginger) Harmon.  The family moved to the South following his father’s career. He is preceded in death by his parents, aunt Delores Jones, uncle Steve Hagen, niece Lindsey Saint, and by his wife’s parents Betty (Lester) Robinson and George (Beulah) Williams. He is survived by his wife Melanie, daughter Shaniah, and his sister Sherri Saint.

Shawn obtained his M.D. in Pediatric Medicine and Ph.D. in Microbiology at the University of Alabama-Birmingham through the Medical Scientist Training Program. He also attained a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Alabama - Huntsville. His research focused on Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) that he had hoped to continue one day.

Choosing to practice in underserved communities, he dedicated his life to the health of children, spirit, soul and body.  He worked diligently alongside his Gateway Family Health Center family to provide quality healthcare to the children of Montgomery. Gateway and Health Services, Inc. will greatly miss his presence.

In addition to his medical pursuits, he had a love for worship and studying the Word of God, reading, music, the great outdoors, science and the Arts.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 17 at 2:22 p.m. at Life of Faith Church, 965 Grantswood Trail Birmingham, AL 35210.  Floral arrangements may be sent to the church on Saturday between 8:30 a.m. to 1 o'clock p.m.  The family would like to thank everyone for their many expressions of support during this time.

Dr. Harmon was my children's pediatrician. He was a wonderful doctor to them both, with all their checkups and milestones. He was compassionate in his work and he had a wonderful bedside manner. He will truly be missed by so many patients that he served!

My condolences to the family - I had lost touch with Shawn since the days when he graduated from UAH (Chemical Engineering) Shawn had spent time in my lab at UAH ... I can imagine the loss to UAB and future physicians ...

Rest in Peace Shawn - my best to all
