I met Dr. McCarthy almost four decades ago when he and his family moved into the same neighborhood in Tema. He and Nelly’s children, Angie, Michael and Miriam became good friends as we played together, went to some of the same schools, did Tae-Kwon-Do, rode bikes, swam and spent a lot of time together.

I have a lots of fond memories from those days. The whole family was very welcoming. One memory that I will always cherish. The McCarthys had a wonderful standing piano in their home which I enjoyed playing whenever I visited. As an eleven- or twelve-year-old energetically working those piano keys, I was convinced in my mind that I was playing some of the greatest classics, but in retrospect it must have been quite a raucous noise at best. Doc will come home from work and find me creating one of my ‘masterpieces’, and as only a patient loving father can do, give me the warmest smile and leave me to it. The interaction was always warm and encouraging, and one that still brings a smile to my face.

As 1 Chronicles 29:15 tells us, “We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land…”, we take consolation that Doc has gone to a better place. As we leave this land behind, we live on in the hearts and memories of the loved ones we leave behind.

Wishing God’s strength, comfort and grace to Nelly, Angie, Michael and Miriam with the trust that we shall see daddy again someday.

God Bless

Dr. Senior has been my senior brother and father I’ve looked up to for inspiration and moral boost all these years. The last time we exchanged on WhatsApp was on the 23 December 2020, and I never communicated ever since till I heard our Lord Almighty had called him to rest. It was always a very constructive exchanges that kept me going with full energy with my life far away in China. Your legacy would continue to guide and mold us to face the challenges of life. Words cannot express the way I feel, since Richard and I cannot be present in Ghana to pay our last respect, but we know our Brother and Father is now with the Lord Almighty. We’re really proud of you bro and Dad.....REST IN PERFECT PEACE till We MEET AGAIN....

Dr Senior as most of the nurses call him at Sinel Hospital was every nurses dream boss. Where he needed to show love to his staff n where he needed to be strict he was. I met him in 2010 when I was in his employ. I'm proud to say I'm a great nurse because of him.
He always had a ready smile for us all and we felt most comfortable with him because he always spoke to us in the twi local dialect. Whenever there was an issue that needed calm he will say 3y3 b)) k)) as3m. I learnt to keep my cool n offer best care in emergencies. Whenever we worked long hours he will bring us meals and add chocolates. He encouraged each n everyone to b the best they could be and encouraged us all to further our education. He was a father figure and like all fathers when he needed to b strict...he was. I gained a lot of experience n had lots of doors opened for me when in his employ.
Dr Snr... We will miss u... I will miss you.
Gone but not forgotten because your legacy still lives on.
Rest in peace Moba
Rest in peace Dr
Rest in peace Daddy.
Till we meet again.

I first encountered Dr. TO McCarthy when I brought a family member to Sinel. He immediately sensed I needed help and  asked that I be assisted pronto!; an eloquent testimony of his caring and kind nature. My later encounter with him was when I happened to be involved in a project dear to his heart; he came across as a man deeply passionate about his work age notwithstanding.
It's always been a  pleasure to catch a glimpse of his energetic self on the Sinel hospital premises and a shame I wouldn't get to see him again.

Rest well Sir! You have fought the good fight and left a lasting legacy.

Dr T O Mc Cathy was gentle, affable respectful and jovial. He was not only a doctor with skill but one with a heart. I will sorely miss our conversations in his crisp Akuapem Twi. Our deepest sympathy to his dear wife, children, his sister Gladys and the entire family. Fare well Doctor. Rest peacefully with your Maker.

I met Dr. Snr when I joined the family at Sinel Specialist Hospital in 2015. Dr was always so fun and caring , always full of wisdom, active and full of faith.
One thing Dr. Snr told me when I was leaving Sinel was, " always believe in yourself". And eventhough that may seem a cliche, GOD knows I needed to hear that in that very moment! And that has stuck with me till today. I will miss you Dr. Snr, and I believe you are resting in the bosom of the LORD! Your memory will remain with us for long. Farewell Soldier! Love always!❤

Dr T. O. McCarthy and I have been friends since we first met at the Waiting Hall at the Old Accra Airporr on our way to Medical Schools sixty years ago. Our friendship rekindled and revamped when we came together again twenty years later as specialist doctors, he , the Obstetrician Gynecologist and I, the Eye Specialist, at the Regional Hospital, Tamale. At this time we were both family men with children.
A very dependable and true friend, Theo was also full of wisdom, a characteristic which bonded him with all his friends who would have only positive attributes to say about him. Above all this ,Theo was first and foremost a family man, an excellent Obstetrician Gynecologist, having managed an outstanding Sinel Hospital and also God-fearing
All of us who have been friends of Theo will miss him dearly, will miss a Great Friend.
May the Almighty Father Grant His Soul an Eternal Rest in Perfect Peace!

Uncle McCarthy,

Always had a smile. Always there to help. Always making sure you were okay.
Same age as my dad but will refer to me as 'my friend'. A very beautiful soul. We thank God that he blessed the world with this soul.

May the Lord comfort Aunty Nelly and the family with the assurance that he is resting in the bosom of father Abraham
