The simple things

September 8, 2014

As Dad was in the reserves, I would have the duty to polish all of his boots before meetings and camp. When he would return from two long weeks of camp we would anticipate him having some sort of gift for each of us upon his arrival. Unlike today, life was much more simple. He always had mint flavored toothpicks, wow what a great thing we all loved them.

Miss you Dad

Our Mother

May 28, 2014
Dolores, mentioned here in the story also has a story. During the war was employed in Washington D. C. at the war manpower department. Later in life she would relate a story of how the city would have black drills. As our father was being interviewed by the national archive department to save their stories before all of the vets had passed, Mother stated her disapproval of the french government wanting all of the graves on the Normandy beaches be moved to American soil. She related that America purchased the gravesites. So these graveyards are American soil in France. Mother also honored her husband by putting his history on the, WWII Memorial web site. In her words, because that is the kind of person that she was. They were guite of a team. Love you both!
