OBITUARY

Edgar Alan Johnston

Mr. Edgar Alan Johnston, 49 of Shanghai, China, and formerly of McKinney, TX and Altoona, PA died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 near Phi-Phi Island (vicinity Phuket, Thailand) in an accident while swimming and snorkeling on vacation with his wife.

Mr. Johnston was born in Altoona, PA on January 26, 1963, the son of Edgar L. and Amelia F. (Eder) Johnston. He married Lifang Ke in April 2009. He was previously married to the former Lori Conley, in May 1986.

He was Director of Major Projects– China for Celanese Corporation, Shanghai, China were he was residing with family.  Ed also held managerial positions for chemical manufacturing in Dallas & Houston, TX, Pensacola, FL and Paducah, KY for the past 26 years with Celanese and Air Products Corporations.

He was a past member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, PA.

Ed was a graduate of Altoona Area High School (1981), Pennsylvania State University (1985) with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering and received his MBA from the University of Texas (2005).  He was a member of the Professional Engineers Society.

He is survived by his wife Lifang of Shanghai, China and his former wife, Lori of McKinney, Texas; 3 daughters, and a son: Rachael Johnston and Hannah Johnston, both of McKinney, TX; Sarah Johnston and Samuel Johnston, both of Shanghai, China; siblings Steven E. (wife Janice) Johnston of Cranberry Twp., PA; Kenneth J. (wife Deborah) Johnston of Altoona, PA; Mary M. (husband Robert) Carey of Altoona, PA; Gerald H. (wife Shelly) Johnston of Mechanicsburg, PA; Karen L. (husband Rick) Macak of Hollidaysburg, PA; and David J. (wife Lori) Johnston of Fairview, PA.  Ed is also survived by 7 nephews and 6 nieces, 1 great nephew and 1 great niece.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Diane M. Johnston in 1976.

A funeral Mass will be held at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, PA at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 15, 2012 with Msgr. Robert C. Mazur officiating.

Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona, PA

Friends will be received Sunday, October 14th from 3-7 PM at Jones Funeral Home, 1222 13th Ave. Altoona, PA where a Vigil for the Deceased will be celebrated during the visitation.
