Edith Helen Wan Liew, age 84, passed away on February 08, 2018.  She was born on January 25, 1933 in Bonn, Germany to Christian and Anna (nee Linden) Schaffrath.

Edith grew up in Germany and in 1957 made her permanent move to the United States and lived in Manhattan where she worked for Lufthansa German Airlines in Sales Promotion for 36 years until her retirement.

In 1978, the family moved to Upper Montclair, New Jersey until Edith’s retirement.  In Hackettstown, New Jersey became her home.

Quick to make friends and bring a smile to all whom she met, Edith’s greatest joy was to socialize and spend time with family and friends and will long be remembered for her gentle heart and fighting spirit.  Her grandchildren were her joy.  Edith was a member of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Hackettstown, NJ.

The beloved wife of the late Anton Wan Liew, Edith is survived by her daughter, Corinne C. Gallagher and her husband Kenneth, of Forks Township, PA; a step-daughter, Deborah Galiano and her husband Henry, of New York, NY; a brother, Ernst Schaffrath and his wife Hanne, of Ebersberg, Germany; two grandchildren, Kevin (10) and Casey (8) Gallagher and a niece, Doris Rettenbeck.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 302 High Street, Hackettstown, New Jersey on Saturday, February 25 at 11:00am.  A luncheon will follow services.
