October 15, 2014

Edward Dean Baldwin, Sr., 59 was born July 14, 1955 in Phoenix, Arizona to the late William Baldwin and Verner L. Armstrong. He lived in Phoenix until the age of eleven when the family moved to Santa Ana, (Orange County), California. In his early youth he was baptized into the Church of Christ. After living in Santa Ana for a short period of time the family moved to Fresno, California where he remained until he felt a strong desire to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army. Edward had close to forty years of service with the United States Army and the Department of Defense. He began his career in 1974 and served on active duty as an IIC Indirect Fire Infantryman (Mortarman) for twenty-two years. He served meritoriously during his Army career and was distinguished by various achievements and awards. The award he received during his active career include: Meritorious Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal; and the Expert Infantryman Badge. After twenty-two years with the Army, Sergeant First Class (SFC) Baldwin retired with his family to the Columbus, Georgia area.

He continued to served his country by entering Civil Service in October 1996 as a Training Instructor for Mortar Systems; supporting PED Ammunition/PM Combat Ammunition Systems and Product Manager of Mortar Systems, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey. During his eighteen years of Civil Service, and being based at Fort Benning, Georgia, he again distinguished himself with multiple achievements while training mortar weapons and fire control systems on multiple occasions to at least ten Army and seven National Guard Divisions. Ed was recognized for deploying and leading the fielding and training of the first Light Infantry Unit in the Army, the 101st Air Assault Division, to receive the 120mm Mortars while in the Afghanistan Theater in 2002. Among the award received during his Civil Service career, include: Superior Civilian Service Award for Accelerated Precision Munitions as Lead Training Instructor and multiple Outstanding Excellence Awards from PED Ammunitions Systems and Product Manager Guided Precision Munitions and Mortar Systems. His family at the office was very close to him and are left to cherish memories of many occasions of TDY trips, celebrations, fielding weapons and just bonding as a team. They were instrumental in his success and happiness at work and he loved his job.

While stationed in the army at Fort Benning, Georgia he joined the St. Mary's United Methodist Church where he served. He was very active as a Boy Scout Leader at the Church.

In the early years of his life, he was blessed to marry the girl of his dreams, the lovely Debrah "Debbie" Walker, and to this union they were blessed with two angels, a daughter, Tanisha, and a son, Edward, Jr. "Chubbs". After years of happiness together, God sent an Angel to return Debrah to Heaven.

After suffering this great loss, Edward heard the still voice of God saying, "I will never leave you or forsake you". God once again smiled on Edward and blessed him with the beautiful Belinda Reyes, the new angel in his life and they were married on June 5, 1993.

Mr. Baldwin was a life-long sports fan. His favorite teams were the L A Lakers and the Oakland Raiders. He loved riding his motorcycle.
