Ed, I will forever miss your laugh your smile and the love I always felt from you every time we were together. From the very first time I met you, I knew we were going to be great friends! Whenever you would come to visit us or we would go and visit you, one of the first things that came to my mind was " oh boy, Ed and I get to go shopping together!!!" I remember how much we loved browsing the shops together wherever we were and always came home with at least one item for each of us. One of my very favorite memories is of this litt squirrel candle I saw in a shop with you and I decided I had to have it. When I went to pay for it, you insisted that you wanted to buy it for me. I cherish that little candle and the many memories of the sweet man who bought it for me. I hope that they're treating you well up in heaven and I know that someday I'll see you again and we'll make new memories. I'm counting on you to take me to all of the great shops you've found for us to explore!
Love,
Your daughter in law,
Robin

Ed, I will forever miss you. You were the best father in law I could
Have asked for. I remember the first time we met. You had flown out to California for Eric and my wedding. You and I went out to lunch just the two of us. You made me feel comfortable from the minute we sat down and the conversation just flowed easily between us. I knew right then and there that I was one lucky girl to be getting such a wonderful father in law. As the years passed, our friendship grew and I so looked forward to our visits. We had many special times together and I miss them so much. Thank you for all the love, support and fun you brought into my life for so many years. I will forever miss you. I hope that you're up in heaven celebrating your birthday today.
Much love,
Your daughter in law Robin

Dear Ed,
It seems like yesterday when you were still with us all. I so miss our visits with you and how much I always looked forward to seeing your happy face! Every Christmas I think of you as Eric and I proudly place your beautiful Santa’s on our fireplace mantel. They bring back such wonderful memories as every year we waited excitedly for your newest creation to arrive, each just as special as the one before it. I hope that you are happy where you are and I just know that someday we will meet again and we’ll be planning one of our shopping expeditions!
Love your daughter in-law,
Robin

Dad,

I simply cannot believe that it has been four years now. I get little reminders of you throughout these last few years like when Steve makes your favorite steak and gravy or when we watch a movie that I know you would have enjoyed. Dunkin even likes to lay in your old room from time to time as I know he misses you as well. Some days are still hard without you but knowing that someday we will all be together as a family again is a comfort. I love you Dad.

A million times
I've needed you
A million times I've cried,
If love alone
Could have saved you
you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place,
No one else can ever fill.
It broke my heart to lose you,
But you didn't go alone
Part of me went with you,
The day God took you home.

Happy Fathers Day Dad, you will always be in my heart. I miss you dearly.

Happy Earth Birthday Dad,

Every year we would celebrate our birthdays together and this year I most certainly miss our special time and feel like a huge part of me is missing, 60 years is a long time to share our special day! I cannot express how heavy my heart is because I miss you so very much. I know you are in a much happier place and no longer in pain and that gives me some comfort. You were the best Dad a girl could have and I am so grateful that we could spend some quality time together the last few years of your life. I remember last Thanksgiving how happy and excited you were to be with friends and family and celebrate your 90th birthday together, what a surprise it was that Eric, Robin and JoAnne could be here also. It was a wonderful day. I know in my heart that you are with all of us in spirit and when it comes time to blow out my birthday candles this year, I will be thinking of you.

I love you,
Nan

Sophie's pig

February 21, 2016

The Smith family had the honour of meeting Ed 15 years ago and of course we loved him the second we met him. Our daughter, Sophie, is one of few who received one of Ed's beautiful pieces of art, a pull toy "Sophie's Pig" and she has cherished it ever since.  15 years later and lots of pulls she still has that pig displayed in her room today. When I told her of Ed's passing she asked me if he was the one who had carved her pig and when I said yes she said to me with a tear in her eye, "I am happy I have that pig because I will always have a part of Ed with me". I anticipate that this pig will be handed down for many many years to come, so Ed will never be forgotten and when I meet him up in heaven we can both smile down on that little pig and see the enjoyment he has blessed another child with. I have posted pics of Sophie when she received her pig and one of her now, boy time flies by.

A gentle man with gentle hands

February 20, 2016

I used to admire the wonderful carvings Eric Nelsen used to have around, and asked if Ed would carve one for me. I asked that he carve a "chicken" for our kitchen. Well, a couple of months later I got a heavy package from Ed Nelsen. I though it was much too heavy to be a small carved chicken out of relatively light wood. Much to my surprise, the chicken was more than I imagined, and the ingenious base that supported it was an antique iron (hence the weight). See the picture attached. It stands proudly in our kitchen and every time I see it I think of Ed.
After that I got the bug, and asked for a sandpiper which sits on my nightstand and every day I think of Ed and those gentle hands. It's like Ed lives in our home in a very special way. By the way, we have three of his Santas that grace our home for the Christmas holidays of which one is a spitting image of Ed himself. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved Ed, a gentle man with a gentle hands and a warm heart.
I am certain he is with the Lord. No question in my mind.
