Sophie's pig

February 21, 2016

The Smith family had the honour of meeting Ed 15 years ago and of course we loved him the second we met him. Our daughter, Sophie, is one of few who received one of Ed's beautiful pieces of art, a pull toy "Sophie's Pig" and she has cherished it ever since.  15 years later and lots of pulls she still has that pig displayed in her room today. When I told her of Ed's passing she asked me if he was the one who had carved her pig and when I said yes she said to me with a tear in her eye, "I am happy I have that pig because I will always have a part of Ed with me". I anticipate that this pig will be handed down for many many years to come, so Ed will never be forgotten and when I meet him up in heaven we can both smile down on that little pig and see the enjoyment he has blessed another child with. I have posted pics of Sophie when she received her pig and one of her now, boy time flies by.

A gentle man with gentle hands

February 20, 2016

I used to admire the wonderful carvings Eric Nelsen used to have around, and asked if Ed would carve one for me. I asked that he carve a "chicken" for our kitchen. Well, a couple of months later I got a heavy package from Ed Nelsen. I though it was much too heavy to be a small carved chicken out of relatively light wood. Much to my surprise, the chicken was more than I imagined, and the ingenious base that supported it was an antique iron (hence the weight). See the picture attached. It stands proudly in our kitchen and every time I see it I think of Ed.
After that I got the bug, and asked for a sandpiper which sits on my nightstand and every day I think of Ed and those gentle hands. It's like Ed lives in our home in a very special way. By the way, we have three of his Santas that grace our home for the Christmas holidays of which one is a spitting image of Ed himself. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved Ed, a gentle man with a gentle hands and a warm heart.
I am certain he is with the Lord. No question in my mind.
