His Life

Edward's Legacy

April 14, 2016

Edward is known for his dedication to work, friendship and love for friends and family.

He has touched the lives of many people over the years in both San Jose and in Calgay. He held all of his friends, family and colleagues very close to his heart.

Edward was born in Calgary in 1985 and grew up in Calgary. He was actively involved in soccer and piano and was a big fan of the Calgary Flames. He loved his sister, mom and dad very much and was much loved in return. Edward moved to Edmonton for his B.Sc in Electrical Engineering and then moved to California for his Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.

After his move to California, he was heavily involved in rock climbing. He spent most of his weekends climbing rock faces around the States with his wife and friends, and each trip around the world was centered around rock climbing. He would meet the love of his life, Asuka, while he was looking for a trad climbing partner. Little did they know that the climbing partnership was only the beginning to something much more special. In May 2014 we all gathered at Lake Tahoe to celebrate their wedding day.

Some of our fondest memories as a family have been our travels to places all over the world together.

Edward had arranged a trip on February 19, 2016 to Yosemite with his parents and his wife Asuka. Unfortunately, on February 17 he was admitted to EL Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California.

The hospital suspected he was infected with HSV-1 encephalitis and could not identify his root cause till March 7. On March 7, the lab test confirmed that Edward was suffering from anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis. He was in a coma when he was admitted into the hospital, woke up and got better after 5 days for 3 days, then collapsed, unconscious again till he passed away peacefully with Asuka, his loving wife, Edith and Wilson, his parents, Sandi , his sister and his friends at his bedside.

He had a memorial service in San Jose, California on March 26 and will have a separate memorial service in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on April 23, 2016.

We will always remember his legacy and we would like to celebrate all the happy moments in his life. He lived life to the fullest, enjoying every moment.

The slideshow from his reception will be available online afterward.
