John and I are truly going to miss Ed. Our heart breaks for the Wardell family, their relatives and friends whose lives were touched by him. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, brother-in-law and uncle. He would do anything for his family and friends. We will miss the weekly talks, but know you are always with us.

"Big Ed" Taken from us to soon. I remember all the baseball games we coached and attended. I remember all the Little League meetings we attended. I remember all the football games we attended. I remember all the college showcases we attended. I remember all the times we spent together. Marie, Will, Aly. I am so sorry for your loss. One thing I can say is that Big Ed never thought about himself. It was always family and friends that came first. He surely will be missed but he will NEVER be forgotten. I love you all. Rest in Peace my friend. I will surely miss you.

His Life

Edward B Wardell

September 27, 2023
Edward B Wardell, "Big Ed", a beloved husband, father, brother and friend left behind a legacy of love, laughter and cherished memories on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

Ed was born on December 9, 1953 in Plattsburgh, New York and spent the majority of his life in New Jersey, currently residing in Lakewood.  His family and friends were his greatest source of enjoyment.  He was always rooting for his beloved New York Jets, attending most games with his family.  Additionally, his love of baseball and the New York Yankees was how he loved to spend his time.  He was also enthusiastic about his care for many beloved pets and gardening at his home.  Big Ed served the local communities of Monmouth and Ocean Counties for many years through his small business, Wardell Security, and countless hours spent with Jackson Little League and Little League New Jersey District 18.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William L. and Eleanor K. Wardell, and his father in-law, Anthony "Tony" L. DiCostanzo.  He leaves behind his wife, Marie, his son, Dr. William L. Wardell and Dr. Brilee Madison, of Pennsylvania, and his daughter, Alyson M. Wardell, of New Jersey.  Additionally, he is also survived by his brothers, William V. Wardell, of New York, and John and Vicki Wardell, of Georgia, his mother in-law, Ann DiCostanzo, of Brick, his brother in-laws Marc and Dina DiCostanzo, of Wall and Anthony and Lorraine DiCostanzo, of Manasquan and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Lakewood Funeral home.  A private cremation will follow.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Edward's memory to the ASPCA (ASPCA.org) or your local Little League.

Uncle Eddie

I can't believe I'm writing this, I can't believe you're gone. I let too many years go by, always thinking I had time to stop by or give you a call but the kids and the jobs and life just goes by and then something like this happens and there's just no more time I can't even begin to put into words all of my best memories w you because there are just so many. From the very early years when you would take us to great adventure or to play tennis, to all the great holidays and giving me my first real job at Wardell security. You were there for me when Jason died when I had kayla and you were the one who called to break the news and talk me off the ledge when my dad died. My heart goes out to Marie, William and Alyson.....you are in my thoughts and prayers. Rest easy Uncle Eddie, before long we will all be together again
